If I just change the speakers and keep the stock HU, will it even make a difference compare to the stock speakers?

What's the stock HU power rating?

I'm looking at Boston Pro and JL ZR. Will them clear? Or there's an adapter for them?

Sorry i'm new with this car...

Thanks
my dad used to live in old town before he retired. good times.

anyway, don't get new speakers. get a new headunit first. you will be surprised at how good the stock 04+ speakers can sound with a decent headunit.

i speak from experience on this one.

BTW: new speakers will sound terrible with the stock hu.

Am I correct that there is no crossover installed with the stock unit? How can they do this with a component speaker system??

For lack of a better description, they've got inline frequency blockers. These devices don't let the tweeters get mids or lows and prevents the midrange from getting the highs.

you can find the bass blockers in the speaker wire itself. These stop certain frequencies dead inthier tracks and never allow them to reach thier destination.

A crossover is different in that it doesn't stop certain frequencies, instead it redirects them, like a crossing guard. This way all of the output of your amp goes to the proper driver. the tweeter gets all the highs and the mids get the lows.

Get a new head unit first!!.

My preference is the Boston Acoustics Z6 (there flag ship)
Had not issues with depth issues when using a 1/2inch-mounting ring.
But if you go with any of the Z series will you need an amp to push them.
I am using the Boston GT-50 4.1 channel amp to run the components.
Front channels 1&2 to the tweeters and Rear Channels 3&4 to the door woofer and channel 5 to run a set of alpine bass shakers and this (136.8dB best run)

Do your tweets have a L-pad on the back of them to adjust tweet output? I believe that mine do not, but I do not know if any Infinity tweets do...

thanks!

Mike
Nope there is no adjustability in terms of output on the tweeters themselves, the crossovers and my deck do that.

Thanks, Willie....but then how do you use the stock wiring with a new setup?? Don't the freq blockers interfere? I don't want additonal electrical components affecting the sound...
