Luckily the "bass blockers" are wired in or just before the speakers themselves, so all you have to do is wire the speaker wires into your stock headunit. you can play with your hu's crossover or eq to your taste, but for the most part, harmful frequencies will be blocked.

i have the stock HU and i am running boston rally series 60 and they made a world of difference. im not a big audiophile, but they definitely helped.
im thinking of putting in rear speakers behind the seats and getting a small amp to help power them as i cant be bothered trying to mess around to get teh dash controls to work.
i have a mate that does installs and he thinks that they might be muffled by the seats, like how the passenger speaker gets muffled when i put a bag there. what do u guys think
i just want a louder sound

get s-pods....they fit into the roll hoops and project sound through the wind tunnels in the seats. No muffling at all. PM "Marks2002" as he makes them. He has a website, but I forgot the address...he will give you a link.

If you want a louder sound, replace the HU. Stock HU's only push like 7WRMS where the normal after market is around 17-25WRMS (twice as loud). I know you said you didnt want to mess with the dash controls, but Modifry sells a DCI that is pretty easy to wire and makes the dash controls compatible with any HU (major brands). It also features speed sensitive volume, which increases volume as you speed up (so you do not have to re-adjust it every time you accelerate). I am installing mine this week.

john--> misconception here. twice the watts does not equal twice as loud. the stereo will be louder, but not to that degree. if my math is correct, in order to get a system that is twice as loud, you will need roughly 10X the wattage.

Blacks, i know for a fact that a new HU will make a world of difference for you. don't bother with the rears, get a new headunit and you won't believe your ears.

The modifry DCI enables you to keep your dash controls, and the new alpines have a system that also enables you to keep the dash controls.

Willie- Thanks for pointing that out....I learns something new everyday on here! He may want the S-pods to create a "fuller" sound. If he just wants it to be "louder" then the HU would probably be the better bet, as you recommended, seeing as he already has newer speakers up front. You should get the most outta those before getting any more speakers.

Just curious, what was your calculations in determining that 10 times the wattage is twice as loud. I'm interested.

For SPL heads, they have been following a rule of thumb: double the wattage, it'll be twice as loud, double the cone area, it will also be twice as loud. Through experience and definition, they are led to believe this due to a roughly estimate of a 3 db increase to their score, which is mathematically considered twice as loud.

I'm not saying that you're wrong, you could be right, I'm just curious to see how you came up with it because it's been a long time since I've taken my last Physics class lol.....

I have to dig up some of my old car audio articles and see what they say.

I could be wrong, but I do not think any of them do "out of the box". You need a DCI (Digital Control Interface) like Modifry's.

To echo a point, I was sending 75w/ch to my BA Pro 6.5's. Sounded ok. After doubling the power to 150w/channel, they sounded muuuuch better. No guru here, but I agree with the others... upgrade HU first.
