OK, OK, I know this is a Valentine 1 site, it's too bad they're huge and ugly. I'm thinking of getting the Escort Solo S2 cordless, what do you guys think?

I would steer clear of the corldess ones. They degrade significantly as the battery wears down, and they generally get worse reviews than the corded models.

I don't really see what's so bad about the V1; you're looking for function, not beauty. And it's only about half again as big as a solo.

That being said, if you don't want a V1, get an 8500.

Well, I've had personal experience with both detectors. I've used a V1 for a long time now, and have never found a fault (except laser detection, but whatcha gonna do?). If that's not your bag, definetly go for the Escort products. Either the 8500 or the Solo S2 are fine choices. I sell both of these at work, and we've had tremedous success with either one. The detection abilites of all three of these pieces are fantastic. That should not be your key concern.

The corless aspect of the Solo is a BIG plus in the S2000, as the power outlet could not be farther from the windshield, so you've got to contend with a cord and power adaptor getting in your way. The easy solution to this is to hardwire the detector, but if you don't feel like having that done.... One of the nice things about the Escort Solo and 8500 is that they can be hooked up to the ZR3 laser shifting module. That way, when you go through a speed trap with laser, the cop just gets a bunch of jibberish on his gun readout! (screw him anyway! )

Despite all the cool features of the Escorts, I still love the arrows on the V1. There's nothing like being able to tell WHERE they are, and avoiding the trap accordingly. The decision is up to you. I hope some of this helps with your decision!

I didn't know the sensitivity degraded as the battery lost life, interesting, the 8500 is looking better then. I think BEL has a new one that's excellent as well...hmmm...

end your search with V1, the arrows are a MUST.

I'm not sure what you're talking about in terms of how big they are, the current V1 is very slim in comparison with my 5 year old V1.

Function over form. The V1's looks either make you love it or hate it, but when it comes to saving your ass on the road you are not going to find a better piece of equipment.

I friend of mine bought the Solo II and was not impressed with the range. He called Escort and they told him the Solo II has about 50% of the Escort 8500's range. He returned the Solo II and purchased the 8500. He is much happiers now.

It does cost alot though... I know it's supposably the best, but is their a low cost option?

Also, does Valentine 1 make the radar/ lasar gun devices that Police use? I read an interesting article that said that the companies that make one, usually make the other as well!
