Go with the V1.

I had a BEL 9xx (can't remember the exact model - it was stolen), and the V1 is light years better. I did some pretty extensive searching/comparing when looking for a replacement and decided on the V1 over the Escort. The arrows really do make a difference! Also, the sensitivity is top notch (for X, K, Ka). It's not pretty, and it doesn't have the bells and whistles of other detectors, but it's radar protection is unmatched.

I have an escort 7500. Had it for a few years, no complaints but the reviews point in the direction of the v1...good luck

8500! Me like. Very good. V1 as good but more money. No solos. No Bels. No spark-o-matics.

IMHO a cheap radar detector is just dash decoration.

V1.. no contest.. Used both and if you live in a rural area the arrows allow you to tell whats a threat and whats not. Plus I found the V1 had a better range..

What about the Whistler? I just bought one of them and it seems very nice in construction and features. Anyone have any input on them? But don't just trash it because it's not a V1 please.

I have the 8500 hard wired into the S2000. Years back, there was a photo tutorial on how to do this, do a seach it might still be around.

You basically loosen the trim on the A pillar and windshield trim. Also, you'll have to remove the "dome" light (I went with the right one) to install the detector power cord, then it's replaced. The power cord plugs into an open 12 VDC plug on the fusebox, next to the left floorboard kick panel.

If you order from Escort, they sell the fused hardwire "kit" for about $10.

Install is easy! and it allows your detector to be mounted just below the rear view mirror without cords showing. Of course it can be disconnected and removed when not in use.

As for the 8500, it's saved me plenty, never a ticket. I don't have any experience with other detectors, but this one has worked for me.

- cheers
