Default Thoughts on Car PC's

Anybody have an opinion on Car PC's? I've been trying to look for a good audio system for a while, but I think a car pc would be very flexible. I've search a little on Google.com and found VoomPc, but is there anything else that anyone can recommend?

Search is your friend.

Here is a great thread on the carPC in the S, and Jeff's system is outstanding.

it's a lot of work, but i think it's worth it, especially on a lack of electronics in the s. I'm pricing my options at the moment but hopefully will have a prototype running within a month, then i gotta fabricate some kinda bezel for the lcd for the car. I'm thinking of not cutting the dash though so i'm not sure how to mount it yet.

I could not live withut my carPC. It does absolutly everything. I have been doing that hobby for a few years now and have had one in each of my vehicles. My current system in the S has been running flawlessly with 0 crashes for months. I even modded the factory audio controls on the dash to control the PC.

Thanks for the link Jim!

Thanks guys! Sireousrex, the link to your cap pc is a major inspiration to me and I plan on continuing with this endeavor. I just think that I'd be happier with a car pc rather than buying an audio system that I'll later regret.

I've got an old computer that I'm gong to try and throw into the back. So far I think I need to shave off whatever I don't need, such as the graphics card and such and throw it all into a smaller case with some more fans. Then I need a DC-DC power supply unit. I'm also looking at touch screens as well. Looks like the screen will be the most expensive piece out of this whole deal.

I'm still in the research phase of this whole operation. Plus I'll won't be returning home for another 2 months (it's driving me crazy, I want to start now! hehe).

Also, I've been getting most of my info from www.mp3car.com if anybody else is interested!

yup, that's exactly why i wanted to do a carpc instead. Aside from the fact that i'm a nerd... lol. The s2000's interior lacks a lot, but it was the way it was designed to be. However, since the s2k is my daily, i'd like to have some nice electronics, and my carPC will be cheaper than anything that can be bought off the shelf at like bby or cc.
