Default Thoughts ? Four 6.5" or One 12"

I was thinking about building another box this winter with 4, 6.5 inch subs.

Anybody try this solution? Any recomendations on drivers. I remember a thread where someone put in 6? Tang Band drivers in the back deck.

I currently have an E-Type 12" Alpine driven by an Alpine T757 (bridged), 400 watts RMS, 4 ohm load, at 14.4V.

Hey-

Depennma has something similar to what you are thinking of, but probably a BIT more extreme (he also has 6 subs). This is a pic I pulled from the Install gallery:

Do you like that setup? What are you hoping to achieve by moving to 4 6.5"s?

10 6.5" subs will not do what one 12" or 10" for that matter are capable of doing. You will never get that low low resonance of a proper subwoofer. 6.5" subs are meant to be used TOGETHER with a proper sub.

Yup! I like the E-type! Just thinking about things to try out as first snow has now relagated my S to "garage ornament" until March.

Well maybe you could try a different type of box for the 12":

Bigger...smaller...CF...MDF...Ported... Lots of possibilities!

Nope....cant do it. It might be 75% as good, but still not as good IMHO.

True you wont be able to go as low if you get rid of the 12, but you could get some nice tight bass into the cabin with the 6.5s. Its a compromise, but i bet they would sound great with certain types of music.

Well it might be interesting depending on where the drivers were mounted but there really doesn't seem to be much blocking the output from trunk enclosures with 10s or 12s(plastic not metal).
