Default Took a step into electronics

I finally took the step that I promised I wouldn't get into with this car. Due to the amount of work and money needed to make this car sound good-I decided not to do anything with the audio...well it lasted 6 months.

I had my friend's shop install an Alpine 9856 HU, bought the Ipod wire (and broke down and bought an Ipod Nano last night too), and Infinity Reference 6012 series door speakers that were shallow mounts...it even said it on the box.

My question is the door panels. There seems to be a gap between the bottom of the panel and the door that I never noticed to be there before. In other words...the panel on the bottom is not completely flush all the way around. Its flush on the sides, in the corner coming down but towards the middle there are some small gaps that barely let you get a finger tip in. I see no bulging evident anywhere.

Is the S panel completely flush to the door on the bottom? I may have to return these speakers. They have puts these on another S but I don't know if that owner checked or is as picky as I am.

I seriously doubt it's the speaker - more likely either one of the clips
that holds the panel in place was not pushed in all the way, or was
lost completely. Is it the same on both sides?

if the speakers are mounted flush with the OEM baskets, then yes, you probably have a mis-mounted retainer. Take it off and look at it. the retainers slide into a notch on the door trim and pop into a hole in the actual door. i would guess one of the clips is still in the metal door hole and 'resting' on the notch, rather than inside the notch, where it should be.

Its normal. There is and always was a gap on the s2000 door panel. The bottom, closest to the motor, has about a 1/2 inch gap. I dont know why, and I dont think we are supposed to ask.

yes-exactly the same on both sides, same spot.
Funny thing is-2 different installers; one for each side. I took both sides apart last night...all clips are in tact and no broken tabs or clips anywhere. I hate that I didn't pay any attention to what it looked like before. I read McGuyver's write up...he did mention the indentations to get leverage t pull the panel...I just don't know how MUCH of a gap there is supposed to be.
