Default top problem after taking out the plastic under the soft top.

I am having a problem after taking out the plastic under the soft top. I took out the little piece and the bigger piece leaving my trunk totally open to my inside. It seams now that my soft top is rubbing on some metal pieces that are stoping it from goign into my trunk.
I am thinking about cutting a whole in that big plastic tub. Anyone agree?
Please tell me if anyone has had simlar problems?
Thanks,
-Peter

So, the top's not going all the way back?

That's weired! Any chance there's something sticking up from the spare tire area that's keeping the top from going down? It should go down without the tray since now there's actually even more space for it. Bring the top all the way up, stick your head behind the seats and check to make sure there's nothing in the way of the top. Another posibility would be you dropped something in the top's motirized mechanism that's causing the problem. You should figure out the problem before putting the top back. Instead of cutting out one big hole, try to drill 2 smaller holes in the shape of the speaker grills, this would look better and maintain the rigidity of the entire piece. You can also cover it with speaker cloth.

The problem is that without the big plastic tub you hit a metal bar on the 2 sides of the trunk where the big tub normally sits. They are susposed to be there. My top goes down alll the way but it just scrapes against thoes bars. So be carefull. So just make sure you don't leave the big tub out and put down your top!

I checked my car after reading you post. I do not see any metal bars that you're talking about. The only pieces touching the top (when it's down) are the ones to the left and right (that I did not remove, maybe you did?) of the big piece but they are all plastic. I've been driving top down for 2 summers now without this big tub and there are no signs or any scratches, wear marks and no rattles. Looking from the trunk, with the top down, I can see that the top is basically still in the same position as it would with the big tub. It does not come any further down (which I though it does) since it rests on the plastic pieces on the side and the big long one towards the back.

I only removed the big tub, did you remove any other pieces as well? Anyways, just vent it and put it back, i'm leasing my car so instead of cutting holes I just took off the big piece.

How does it sound now?

I took my tub out too and have no problem. The only thing is that when you look behind the seat, you can see the spare, especially through the back window. My amp is in my spare too. I wanted to port the tub, but I left it at work for a week and I think someone threw it out. You guys dont want to get rid of yours cheap do you?

ah, mine are metal in the 03. they have this little rubber stoper on them that it does hit. But the fabric on the soft top rubs against them in the 03. weird it would be different.
