Total Watt Capacity of OEM Speakers
So I have a nice little Alpine CDA-105 waiting in my living room (patiently waiting on Modifry to have the PnP harness available so I can order it along w/the DCI)...in the mean time I'm wondering if the OEM speakers on my '05 can handle the output of the aftermarket head unit...not like I'm running a super powerful unit but my dad thinks I'll blow the stock speakers
What I want to know is the watt rating of those OEM speakers...this should help me decide whether I should go w/an aftermarket set (ie: some moderately priced kicker ones)
feel free to also make some nice cheap speaker suggestions (ie: $75-150)
thanks in advance guys

but do you know the wattage...from what I can gather off this listing on ebay the stock speakers are rated at 20W
the CDA-105 is an 18W 4 channel so that should be safe
but what is the stock head unit? 15W?

The CDA-105 does 18watts RMS 50watts MAX. Our speakers can handle about 5-7watts RMS and 15watts MAX. There is two ratings for every speaker and all outputs (on either a head unit or an amp) make sure you match RMS with RMS. Max power normally doesn't provide any good information except bragging rights and a selling strategy.
Still though...you'll be fine running that head unit on stock speakers.

doesn't make sense to me lol...I'm a total newbie when it comes to audio stuff...can anyone else confirm that stock speakers are ok with the CDA-105?
there must be members on here w/the same head unit that are still running stock speakers

You're looking at the numbers to hard. You have to putt more then an extra 10-20 watts to blow a speaker, or even damage it. Yeah the specs don't match perfect, but with that small of a difference, it doesn't matter.

that's reassuring man...cause I really didn't want to spend money on speakers if I didn't have to...
I understand aftermarket speakers will provide better sound but I'm sure just upgrading the head unit as I have done will make a good bit of difference
My only question is what is making the difference...because just the difference in wattage can't be what's doing it...how is the CDA-105 giving me better sound in the OEM speakers when compared to the OEM head unit? just trying to understand the mod

The biggest thing is now you can listen to your iPod through an actual digital channel. Better sound overall comes from the actual voltage signal which is a better signal and you have a little more control over the bass and treble to help out too.
