Default Tweeter; Raleigh-Durham

I bought my 2007 Silverstone this summer, and although I still haven't formally introduced myself on the boards because I've been so busy, I wanted to solicit people's thoughts on the following topic. Like most S2K owners, I quickly realized that the stock stereo system doesn't cut it; I don't need to provide the audio for a block party, but I want to be able to hear my music on the highway with the top down. Accordingly, I want to do a fairly modest upgrade -- definitely a new head unit, door speakers and amp, and perhaps a very small sub. Not sure if there's any benefit to replacing the roll bar speakers, but I'd be interested in thoughts on that. In any event, I'll share my thoughts on gear specifics when I have a little more time, but what I'm most interested in now is recommendations for installers. I'll be in Durham, NC for a week in late September, which is when I plan to do this, and I know there's a Tweeter there as well as an independent store (the name of which I've forgotten) on 15-501. What are people's experiences with Tweeter? They seem to carry a higher quality of merchandise than the big box stores, but I was curious if anyone had any experience with their installation work. Also, any thoughts on other shops in in the Raleigh-Durham area? I'd love to do the work myself, especially because I don't like anyone else touching my baby, but my time and abilities are equally limited, and I don't want to screw this up. Thanks!

To a large extent, it will vary with the individual installer (true of anywhere, but speaking for a chain is much more difficult than a small shop). That said, you'll have better luck at Tweeter than say Best Buy or Circuit City.

They sell higher end equipment, and it's possible to negotiate on prices to some extent. For some items, you may want to source it yourself and just pay them to install it.

You may want to look into the amp mounting board that PAS2KNUT sells (assuming that you're willing to sacrifice the spare tire), and a sub box from WLaurent. If you go with those two items, the install becomes something of a plug n play, which Tweeter should have no problem with. Still, it might not be a bad idea to look at the AP2 install guide thread floating around here, and printing off some of it for the installer. The AP2s require the removal of the top piece of the center tunnel prior to removing the cover to the HU... which was not the case with the AP1. The installer may not be aware of that.

There are a couple threads here related to the roll bar speakers. Thus far, nobody (that's posted at least) has come up with a better solution that fits, and once you upgrade the fronts, you'll only be using them for a hint of fill, so not really an issue.

Lastly, it might be worth posting in the local forum covering NC for specific shop recommendations.

Cheers,
Phil
