I would upgrade your main component speakers before adding headrest speakers. But you might be able to find something better than the Type-Rs. What price range are you looking at?

Don't waste your time or money.

Wait till you can afford a decent set of components. Will save you $$$ in the long run

Personally, I'm going to go with the RE audio XXX 6.5 components, they are just a little over your set budget...but you should check them out. 150 watts RMS, and 2 ohm (2 ohm mids and highs are pretty rare, which means your alpine stereo pushing 18 watts a channel would be driving these 2 ohm speakers closer to 40 watts) With these speakers you may not even have to worry about adding any headrest speakers.

You're kidding yourself if you think that the internal HU amplifier is capable of pushing that much power.

Ever seen a 20Wx4 amplifier that small? And throw in the CD player, radio receiver, sound processing, etc...

SAVE YOUR MONEY and buy quality components.

And by quality, I don't mean just look at power vs output specs. I'm talking about looking to adequately cover the full audible frequency spectrum - which means looking at output vs frequency graphs.

Of course, I realize that this takes time...and no one here really wants that kind of advice. Everyone just wants everyone else to say "oh, that's a really great idea!" or "You got a great deal!"

Alpine HU's are 18 watts rms per channel (50 watt max) at 4 ohms. the re xxx are 2 ohm.

That means that the 18 watts at 4 ohms effectively doubles. Also the re audio are a high quality set of components.

I've been a car stereo freak for quite some time, followed the SQ comps for a while now, MB Quart and Oz Audio are the only two brands of speaker that have ever got a perfect score, which sucks because MB quart got bought out and OZ Audio went under. If not I would have told him to get either of the two. I'm not here to get in a pissing match with anybody, he asked, I suggested, so my question is, what do you suggest? what brand? why do you suggest them?

Regardless. if you want to run highpower componets off a headunit your wasting your time.
