Default Upgrading from an Alpine 9815 to a 9835

Hi S2kers,
I will be replacing my 9815 with a 9835. The current setup has (don't know the specifics since it came with the car) 9815 with DCI, rear speakers, and bazooka tube. I was just wondering if I could just unplug the (alpine factory) harness from the back of one HU and plug it into the other HU. Will everything work (especially the DCI) as is or do I need to plug/splice any wires? Do I need to reprogram the DCI? Thanks in advance for any help.

I did the same thing in my prelude, just took out the 9815 and put in the 9835. The harness matched up perfectly, it looks like they use the exact same harness. Just make sure that you have the power hooked directly to the battery like it tells you, not the fuse box. I fried my 9815 by not realising that when I had it installed at best buy they just hooked it up to the fuse box. That was the last time I didn't just do the install myself.

Oh also they have the exact same remotes so I would assume the DCI should still work fine.

thanx goldenfri n smurf2k. Yup it works, just finish the install. Only thing was the HU chassis needed to be pushed into place, it was really a tight squeeze! I tried moving the wires and connection boxes this way n that but in the end I had my sis push the HU in while I screwed it in place. Anyone else have this problem? I mean how do u guys fit the subwoofer plugs, ipod adapter wires, etc... into that small space? Is it ok that I did that? I really don't feel comfortable that I had to do that.

Goldenfri:
How can I tell if the power is hooked up directly to the battery or not? The harness was spliced and installed by the previous owner's shop. The 9815 is going into the accord so I need to figure out this direct power connecting to the battery thing.

thanx for the help!

look at the battery to see if theres an additional cable coming from it

or check the back of the head unit to see whether the yellow cable from the HU goes into the factory harness or it runs out to the battery

though i suppose its not necessary unless you listen to your system loud--using all 27w and drawing higher current in the system

the two yellow wires:
splice IF you 1) use external amplifier (bypass internal amp) or 2) use internal amp but listen to low level

IF you listen to it loud, youll draw too much current for the stock wires
