Upgrading stereo system
Sup guys.
I just bought a s2k last week and already thinking about upgrading my system. Nothing big just a hu, component speakers and an amp. I don't want any sub because i need the trunk space. My budget right now is $450 or less. I already set my eyes on the ida-x305 HU.
http://www.amazon.com/Alpine-iDA-X305-digi...64046209&sr=8-1
So ida-x305 + wired DCI + PnP harness will cost me around $330.
Now for the component speakers.
I'm looking at these alpine
http://www.amazon.com/Alpine-Type-S-SPS-60...64046336&sr=1-2
OR
http://www.amazon.com/Alpine-Type-R-SPR-17...&sr=1-1-catcorr
Which one you guys would recommend ? Note that i will add an amp later in a few months.
Also I'm planning to use stock wires to wire my speakers. Will that be ok ?
Do i need any spacers to fit the speakers in ?
Thanks in advance for the information

what's your final budget and longer term system goals? that will determine what's worth getting. do you want to go active, passive, or are those terms new to you?
if you want to add an amplifier to the components, i would look at others. it's been discussed quite a bit in the recent build threads. in the ~$200-$300 component range, you might want to (also) look at hertz hsks, focal's entry level, some folks like the bostons (pro 60?), the ppi set is pretty good, rainbow has some, and there's a few other good options i'm forgetting at the moment. if you go active you can go to www.madisound.com and check out seas and some of the others; i got the pioneer 720prs set for an active setup. for the most part though, the mainstream brand names are not your best bet for a "sure thing" or the best sound.
equalizing with imprint will make a ton of difference. if you're doing a $1000+ total build i would try to include that in the budget.
and if you use the stock wiring, it will certainly give you sound and it could be said to work, but IIRC you'll lose on the order of 3dB, which would be the same as cutting your amplifier's power in half.

My final budget is around $1000. Can't go more than that since im not an audiophile. And since s2000 is a 2 seaters. All i need is decent components and an amp to power it.
I'm thinking of getting the sps-600c and use the stock wires just for a few months. Once I came back from my summer vacation (which is why I don't wanna spend big on sound system now) I will sell the sps-600c and get a better components, add an amp, new battery, deadening the door,etc..
Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan,
I have similar equipment to that you're looking at. Have a look at my sig for details (and also the very small, easily removable sub installation - you'll not regret getting one, although you can certainly leave it til later to do.
I'd certainly recommend the Type-R over the Type-S speakers, although I've heard Focals and they are good too.
Most components require spacers, but they are easy enough to make/get hold of from Ebay for not much.

I just bought the ida-x305 can't wait till it arrives
As far as components I will probably go with the sps 600c for now then I will upgrade it to type r or type x depends on my budget at that time.
I just wanna make sure I have evrything ready before I do the installation.
I will order wired dci and pnp harness tmr then next week when I have my pay check I will get the sps 600c and the speaker adaptor. Do I really need speaker adaptor ?
Thanks,
Ryan
