V1 Project update
Well, I'm afraid I have given up on mounting the V1 within the lid of the upper compartment. After testing the performance of the detector mounted within the lid, the performance of the detector vs. typical windshield mount was slightly diminished. The worst part though was that the V1 became directionally vague, seemingly unable to properly pinpoint the location of the signal.
Looks like I'm going to move on to location idea number 2; gutting the map lights and mounting the V1 in there. This one will be a while though, have too many track days lined up

Utah,
Thanks for the concern, but I'm fully aware of the laser detection of the V1. I wasn't completely enclosing the unit in the lid, I had an opening cut in the front and rear for the antennae to "see" out of.
I really am less concerned about laser performance than K and Ka bands anyway. Unfortunately, the way I had it set up the rear antenna had good reception, but the front antenna's reception was compromised a bit which really made the directional ability of the V1 falter (it's probably set up with the expectation of being in the windshield, with the front antenna being more sensitive than the rear).
