Default V1 Stealth mount

Update: 06/19/07
I have completed the prototype of the whole system and added the pics of the finished product below. I am going to tweak the process I used to make it a bit for the final product. Now I am making some templates and molds to help with making future mounts.

Original text:

I have seen the other V1 mount that was made for the S, placing it above the secret compartment. I liked the stealthiness of this, but I researched alot and found that the higher and more forward you place the detector, the better your chance of catching the stray signals of an instant on radar gun as the officer shoots cars ahead. Same thing for stray laser waves bounced off of cars ahead. So, I decided to mount mine above the rear view mirror. I did not put a rear window for rear laser detection as I have no use for it. If you get hit from the rear with laser, you are toast. Radar covereage in the rear will not be effected. Also, many new cars are coming with laser guided cruise control which is a PITA if you get falses from them alot. I may change my mind and put a window later, but I doubt it.

I have completed the mount for the detector itself, but I am still waiting for my remote display. I debated doing the display in the rear view mirror, since it isn't that hard to do, but then I figured if I am going to have the display up there, why even bother stealth mounting at all?? My whole reasoning for stealth mounting was 1) cleanliness and 2) keeping people from freeloading behind me on the highway when they see my detector. So, I will be mounting my remote display flush mounted into the shroud that wraps the steering column. I will also have different color LEDs installed for the band identification. That way each band is easier to detect at a glance being a different color.

The remote audio control will be mounted on the center console, near the shifter, flush. I will update as I get more done ie. the remote display and volume control arrives.

Location where V1 is mounted:

Stealth cover installed. Look no boogers either! :

V1 remote switch:

V1 remote display:

It is hard to tell in the pics, but I have the LEDs for the different radar bands in different colors now. Red is laser, blue is Ka, green is K and yellow is X. Makes a big difference.

So you have a cutout for the front of the radar dectector sensor? any pics of that section?

I would totally beg to differ that the REAR detection is not needed - it has saved me many times in telling me when I passsed a bogey, it changed direction and now is coming up on me from behind.

In your setup you would not know once he passed you since you blocked the REAR sensor! hahaha

Nice look but I think you need to modify that enclosure....

No, I am not saying I don't want rear RADAR detection, I do not want rear LASER detection. Fiberglass does not obstruct radar in any way.

UPDATE 06/15/07:

I am still waiting for my remote display to come in to complete my stealth mount. I did manage to get the remote power/volume switch done:

The remote display should be in early next week and I will have it all glassed up and completed soon afterward.

No, I was concerned about that, but my arm sits to the left of it in a natural position. It actualy makes it easy to mute since I can just nudge the knob with my elbow if needed.

I had wanted to mount it right near the roof/hazard switches, but it would have been a serious soldering and re-mounting job. It can be done though.

I was not aware Fiberglass does not block the sensors, if that is true then you're setup is perfect.....hmmmmm

The car is coming together nicely, I remember what you did with the radio mount and now this, very impressive

I'm revamping my interior right now as well with new electronics so tryin to find creative ways to mount everything. My only thing is I will not sacrifice any storage space of cup holders since those are invaluable to me!
