vtec indicator
Help!
I need an electronic guru advice. I plan to do the vtec indicator mod by using the LED in the cluster. Since I don't have OEM alarm. Can I use a relay to drive the LED or that too much current for the ECU to drive the relay? Can I use the counter with a LED if both are under 100 mA of current? It's a 05 s2k. Thanks.

thank riceburners2001,
I was hoping to use a relay to drive the led in the cluster, it's a negative input. I don't know how much current to drive a relay or any. Any professional help.

so i went to there web site, and couldnt find it there either...
wtf...where can i find these, "general purpose diodes rated 50 volts 1 amp (1N1001)"

Minimum order size per line item is $500 USD. Please be aware, some international suppliers may have higher minimum order sizes (you will be notified).

Hey riceburners2001, I think he meant 1N4001 diode. Ask him to make sure.
Just about any diode will work, just don't use anything identified as a "zener diode" or a "signal diode" or a "Germanium diode" . General purpose rectifier diodes, silicon diodes, or schottky diodes are fine.
If you get stuck I can send you some, but you might have to PayPal me $1. The stamp and envelope will cost more than the diodes.
Datbird - Yes the VTEC output on the ECM can drive a relay. You can use any low-current type, Radio Shack should have some though they are carrying fewer and fewer components these days. If you use a relay you don't need the diodes. They were there to keep the turn signal voltage from back-feeding and activating the VTEC solenoid. The relay will isolate the two circuits so you won't have that problem.
The other option is to use a transistor instead of a relay. Smaller and cheaper, (though it will require one or two resistors in addition to the transistor), but again it will eliminate the need for the diodes.
