Default What is better, active or passive?

Hi chaps

Just installing more bits and bobs to my cars ICE and I've run across a confusing point (to my novice self)

My Pioneer 80 prs has 3 way active network or std network modes, now I have the alpine 4.100 amp which can only accept 2 rca inputs.

As much as I want to run 3 way active for the adjustability I can't because the high and mid range RCAs outputs can't both fit with a sub rca.

Am I best off just running std network and running one rca cable down the car and letting the amp do all the crossovers or can I still run two RCAs.

One for front speakers and one for the sub?

Cheers!

By using the sub outputs from the HU, you are effectively using the HU active crossover for the sub/mains.

What you can't do is use the HU active crossover for the woofers and tweeters, so you'll need to keep your passive crossover in place for those.

Best arrangement you can do is 2 sets of RCAs, one for the Mains and one for the Sub. There's no need to use any crossover settings on the amp as it'll all be done at the HU.

For full 3 way active you will need a 5/6 channel amp, along with two sets of speaker cables running from the amp to both the Woofers and Tweeters.

That's fine if you want to bi-amp, but is no good for 3-way fully active.
