Default What is this Code business?

Ok,

I just got my new jvc HU from sonix electronics, Im going to install it this week. I have everything prepped the old hu just has to be unhooked. However, I have never done a HU install on a vehicle with the security codes. Where are the codes located? If I dont have them will my HU be any good after I take it out? I got my s2k used and I dont even have an owners manual. I'm sure the codes are not located on the hu itself that just wouldn't make any sense. Im going to take it out anyway its so weak its not even funny, but Im going to want to put it back when I sell my car.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!!!

you call the dealership and tell them the code on the top of the radio and they can tell you the code, some people say you can hold 1 and 6 and it will tell you the code, but that never worked for me

The 1 and 6 trick only works on 2002 (or is it 03?) and later radios. Also, I don't hink it gives you the code, just the number you need to get the code from the dealer -- so that you don't have to remove the radio. Since the OP is removing the radio, that is not relevant.

If you still have your owners manual and everything, there is a credit card size card in one of the books. I forget which one I found it in, not the large manual, but there are two smaller ones. Also, you can get it from a Honda Dealer.

Thats right friends. I found this,
https://radio-navicode.honda.com/
and yes it works (providing you have everything to verify ownership)

You can also call 1-800-999-1009
Hours of Operation
This automated process is available Monday to Friday 4:00 AM to 9:00 PM PST (Pacific Standard Time) , 4:00 AM to 6:30 PM on Saturdays , and 4:00 AM to 9:00 PM PST on Sundays.

All Other Models
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn ON the device and confirm that the display reads COdE. If you don’t see this message, pull the backup fuse for 1 minute, and then go back to step 1.
Turn OFF the device.
Press and hold the 1 and 6 radio preset buttons, and turn ON the device.
The display toggles between two screens: U with the first 4 digits of the serial number (U2200 for example,)
And L with the last 4 digits of the serial number (L0055 for example.)
Ignore the U and L and record all 8 digits
For models earlier than 2001, the serial number is located on the back of the device. This will require a trip to the dealer to obtain the number.Or if you know how, you can remove the head unit yourself (Professional R/R Recommended)

Phone Number and Zip Code Information
For security purposes, we verify ownership by comparing the phone number, zip code, and VIN you enter with those we have on file. Unless you have updated these values through Customer Services, the phone number and zip code will be those on file at the time the vehicle was purchased.
