Default Car code unlock procedure

Told by Honda Portsmouth to put ignition onto ACC (click 2). Ensuring stereo is off, hold down buttons one and six then switch stereo on. Should now release serious of code from which you can interpret a code to refer back to Honda and generate another code to type back in and unlock? What a load of bollocks! Surely there's an easier way. Who's going to pinch that HU? The car is a '99 model. Please help.

Pull it out and put a decent aftermarket one in

Or stick it in the freezer (does that still work these days?)

Good call. Trying to sell it on here to put an Alpine HU in. However still have a couple of trips to make in the S without music.

Does the dealer who originally sold the car have the code? IIRC there is a card which comes with the car which has the HU code on it. I think my dealer wrote it on the PDI as well.

"That" HU is still much better than the units in perhaps half (?) the cars on the road in the UK and maybe 95% of cars on the road in Hungary, Latvia, Poland, The Czech Republic etc etc etc - where the three equally average units I have had nicked from previous cars have gone - maybe together with a pair of prescription sun glasses taken from my Focus (smashed the rear window to get those!).

My car came with the radio code on a card in the manual. The days of freezing radios to reset the standard code are long over I believe. The process you have outlined sonds quite sensible to me. Sounds quite secure. If there were an easier way then the unit in my car would be more of a target - which I do not really want as the littel darlings don's usually bother opening doors - the roof opens easily with a knife.

I chucked the standard HU in the nearest skip along with the standard speakers.....crap!!

My old 1978 T plate Accord Hatchback had a better sound system.....an analogue radio with single speaker in middle of the dash filled with buscuit crumbs
