Default What do you think of this setup?

I had another S2000 w/ a small setup, but it was stolen a week after I put everything in, so I couldn't really see what the system was lacking. I had an Alpine headunit installed, 6.5 Alpine Type R Components, iPod Interface, and Modifry's DCI. From what I remember it was very high pitched.

I don't want to add a sub in the trunk because I've heard bad things about subs in convertibles. I have to listen to it first before I would add one.

How does just an Alpine headunit, Alpine 6.5 Type R Components and 6x9 Type R speakers behind the seats sound. The person I purchased the car for already wired up 6.5s behind the seat, but I'm think 6x9 to give more lows.

What you think?

Lots and lots of electronics forum posters have subs in their cars, and I don't think many have had convertable specific problems. I can see few reasons why 6x9s behinf the seats would be a better option.

would 6x9's fit. I hate 6x9's but maybe that's just me.

I personally don't like much rear fill anyways.

As for the highs being bright, where do you have the tweeter adjustment in the crossover? 0db?

You can easily install a sub in the S2000. I have one in mine but selected the Infinity Basslink so I can remove the entire assembly in about 2 minutes (and I only wanted low end to fill out the spectrum, I didn't want much bass). There are many other options for a subwoofer in an S2000, from passenger floorboard setups to "custom" boxes available from members/vendors on this forum to full custom jobs by a stereo shop.

Where do you have your basslink? I was thinking about installing that unit but couldn't find a place in the interior to install it. Again, I don't want it in the trunk.

Not to put you too much on the spot, but can you talk about this a bit? If it were simply a matter of not wanting to loose the space then I would understand, but in your first post above you mention having "heard bad things" about subs in convertables in particular, rather than simply small truncks. You may have been misinformed. I can understand the idea that you wish to avoid expensive and complicated options, but then why ponder a custon 6x9 install job? If you want simple, go headunit and speakers. If you want quality go headunit, speakers, amp, and sub, and you'll still have almost as much trunk space as the basslink, and depending on install cost maybe spend no more than on the 6x9 option. It might be harder for you to get help unless you can tell us what it is about the 6x9s over the sub that has you leaning that way.

Mine is in the trunk, velcroed to the tool box cover. It's been there for a few thousand miles now (I had planned on making a new custom tool box and cover to lower it some but I'm lazy...) and no problems.

I think you guys misunderstood the reason why I don't want a sub. It's not the trunk space. I can make a small box to fit somewhere in the corner or something. I heard that when you have the top down that it sounds really bad because the top starts to rattle since it's in between the cabin and the trunk. Is that true? And how does it sound w/ the top up?

If you guys tell me that the sub won't sound bad in the trunk, then believe me, I'll go ahead and buy this stuff tommorow. The only reason I haven't purchased my system yet is because I'm still questioning the sub.

I was just going to mount the 6x9s on the plastic wall behind the seats. Nothing extreme. Very simple.

Now if you guys are recommending a sub in the trunk, then do you think I need to have four speakers in the cabin, or the 6.5 compenents will be enough?

6.5 compenents + sub seems like the way to go to this user, but I'm not a top audio guy by any meens, I just don't want you to buy something that isn't the best system for you due to misinformation. If other guys with subs in the trunk don't chime in here, just search around. You'll see guys like darkknight1999, NFRs2000NYC, and PAS2KNut either have or install systems with a lot of sub power in the trunk, and they end up very happy with the results. Happy shopping!

I have no rattles with my basslink, but it's not horribly powerful. Sounds good with the top up and still provides enough fill with the top down.

My system is not an earth shaking system, nor does it provide lots of bass, it provides just enough to fill in the low end which is what I wanted.
