Default <>>>>>>What is so GOOD about the Passport8500?<<<<<>

ok, i just bout a cobra 9300 and i am considering reurning it to best buy to get the passport 8500. The only draw back is that it cost almost 3 Bills.

is it really worth it to spend so much on this radar?

i think the cobra doesn't really work that well, it starts beeping when I am like close close to the cop, what is the point?

how does that passport8500 work and what does it have on it that other radars do not have?

Plz help...

I do not expect that these are typical results but I have had occasions where my 8500 has picked up signals over a mile away, it seemed like forever before I saw the cop... around corners (those who went to Wake the Dragon will understand. These are not instant on situations however. The 8500 outperforms any detector I have ever had. easily.

I owned the best cobra before my valentine 1. The cobra is nothing more than a paperweight. Get rid of that POS and get either an 8500 X50, or V1. Otherwise, dont bother.

The V1, Passport 8500, and BEL Vector 985 are the only ones worth considering (yes, there is an echo in here) that I know of. Yes, they cost more and in this case, you are definitely getting what you pay for.

I have the 8500 and almost got the V1. Both are excellent RDs. For me, I liked the 8500 because it was smaller, had a smart cord (easier to mute), and didn't false as much on "Auto" mode. V1 is larger, costs $100 more, but has the cool arrows and outstanding sensitivity.

The BEL is great too and probably the cheapest of the three, if cost is your top priority. Feb '04 MT rated all 3 and they finished a virtual dead heat but smoked all the RDs under $200.

Getting out of one more ticket than you would have without the more expensive RD already pays/justifies its higher cost.

And I also echo on the 8500 that thing can sometimes sniff for miles. I'll hear it, and say, "hmm, I don't see anything, where is the cop?". I'm always proven wrong.

On at least 3 occasions since I've owned it, someone else got a ticket earmarked for me. I was going faster, but slowed down in time while the other guy (maybe he had a cobra -- ) got pulled over. It has saved me countless other times.

You spent big bucks on a fast car for a reason. It wasn't to sit around putting at 45 mph on a two lane divided highway when no one else was on the road. Dropping an extra $100 or so for the best protection money can buy is worth it no question in my mind.

8500 saved me and screwed the other guy yesterday...
me = him =
me after realizing he suddenly understood why i suddenly slowed down so much =

the 8500 has saved me quite a few times with some way long warnings... it has also given me more than a few laser warnings off of traffic a good ways (~200 ft) ahead of me, which is time enough to slow down...

and the 8500 can be had for as low as $245 shipped from an authorized seller.

I bought the Bel Vector 985 after the review in Motortrend. Mine was messed up and consistently went off with no radar anywhere near me. It was completely random and annoying. I believe there was something wrong with it.

However, when it did work, it wasn't any better than some of the others I've owned in my life for less than $100 (various Whistler's).

I returned it and got the Passport 8500. As soon as I got it (from Crutchfield), I learned of the new X50 version. So, after using my Passport 8500 for a few weeks (it worked great! - used it during the S2K/NSX Florida Super meet), I returned it for the X50 (same price, and improved).

I have nothing but good things to say about the Passport 8500, and the X50 picks things up even better than the regular 8500.

It's definitely saved me many times.

A friend of mine (also with an S2K) has the V1. He loves it. And for about $100 less, mine seems to work just as good as his. We rode in the same group drive (me right behind him) during the supermeet, and we both picked up radar from oncoming law enforcement (around corners, over hills, headed toward us miles down the road) within 100ths of a second of each other.

You can't go wrong with the Passport 8500 or V1.

It's worth it!
