What Video System or Head unit
Ok, Im ready to upgrade my audio system(is all stock right now)
Did some research here and everybody seems to agree that no DVD head unit will fit in our cars.
Crutchfield lists the Alpine IVA-D900 as it will fit our cars. I wanted to go the Kenwood way( KVT-915) or Pioneer Premier (AVIC-N1)
There's also a new unit from Alpine( IVA-D901) that Im guessing will fit our cars as well.
Any opinions? Anybody has any of these units in its car? Is it doable? (install any of them)
Any specific model from MB Quart speakers line for our car I should look at?
As you might notice I have no clue at all about audio so any help would be appreciated
All I want for my car is a good DVD/CD/TV unit and some MB Quart speakers for now.
Thanks
No matter what Crutchfield says, any flip out screen will NOT work in the stock location. It may fit in the one DIN opening, and you MAY get the screen to open up, but there's not enough room between where the screen would be and 1/3/5 gear.
I have the MB Quart QSD 216s. They're extremely impressive speakers. The best I've ever heard in a car for my tastes.
They deserve some big power though so you'd be looking at head unit + speakers + quality amp ... that's the price of a DVD player right there. Check the mbquart.com website and then check discountjungle.net to see what the real cost is. Don't buy MBQ's from dealers. You can get them for 60% off online.

Pioneer makes a DVD headunit (no screen) for $599 MSRP. You can find a way to mount an external 7" LCD screen somewhere. I've seen them cut into the dash. In F&F2, Suki's car had a screen mounted on the passenger airbag cover.

my friend that works at circuit city was just telling me about a new sony they got in. The face of the deck is a TFT screen with video inputs. It will be a very small picture, but it will fit. You might also look at a rear view mirror with a screen built in to it.

makes these tiny screens almost a waste IMO
Oh yeah, I can go on for days about headunits... Eclipse is my favorite for their user interface and slightly cleaner sound (to my ears). I have the non-powered (external amp required, keeps the signal cleaner and the headunit cooler) CD 8053 from last year. This year's top model looks pretty awesome too with a Memory Stick slot to store all your HU's settings (and it lets you set everything on your computer using a mouse instead of crappy little buttons on the HU). Alpine and Clarion also make great high end decks.
If you don't mind cutting your dash here's my favorite for DVDs, the Eclipse 2454. Here's what I posted in another thread:

I looked at the AVIC for a coworker but my installer pointed me to the new 2454 by Eclipse. Have you guys seen this one? It beats the other systems hands down. It's got an integrated touch screen and two disc slots so you don't have to eject your Nav DVD to play a CD (why hasn't anyone else thought of that?).
