Default What's wrong with my volume?

My system consists of a 9857 HU /w ipod, mb quart components up front and a 10w6v2 in the back. i'm running two sound stream amps. the system sounds great and its all I expected.. except for one weird thing. The max volume on my system is 35... when I turn it up to 22 it's really loud, I could maybe only go a couple notches higher for my comfort. The problem is, as soon as I go from 22 to 23, the highs get lower, the bass gets lower, everything just goes lower. I can turn it up to like 25-26-27 and it starts getting louder but it sounds like its muffled and the bass is definately gone. So basically I'm stuck at volume 22 when I really just want to go to around 23 or 24 (or what it should be).

I searched for similar problems and found nothing.. anyone know what could be causing this? My amplifiers are a little bit more powerful than what my speakers can run, so I have the gains on both amps around 65%... it sounds great.. just not past volume 22/35.

I'd start by lowering the gains in the amps.

lowering gain is best suggestion ... sounds like speakers are going beyond their limits and distorting... or perhaps amp, too starting to clip or go into protect...

Yeah, turn down your gains - you're overpowering the amps and they are going into protect mode. I'd make sure your amp is wired correctly for the ohm load it can handle to the sub, and if its wired correctly, re-tune your system so you don't overwork your amps.

You need to list all the details of your system to get more pointed info, but in my experience if you tune your system properly 16-18 on the volume should be plenty loud on an Alpine.

I'm in the final stages of completing an install and came across the same problem.

It appears to be a feature of the BBE setting, which appears to reduce it's influence above volume 22 (especially noticeable when in BBE MODE 3).

So, I'd suggest that you turn UP your amp gain (as far as is reasonable without distortion from amp or damage to speakers) and know that a volume of 22 is as high as your going to go on the 9857 and still have the BBE in full effect.

Just my 2 cents...
