Where to mount tweeters for rear components
I can't decide if components would be better or self contained units. With components, where do you put the tweeters? I think inside the roll bar loop would be a good spot but it seems pretty dense in there, not sure how I would get the wires in there. Ideas and opinions welcome.
Hi Bernie,
I have the Polk 4" components mounted in the rear panel. I cut and mounted the mid range speakers, attached the x-overs with Velcro to the metal panel behind the panel (makes for a neat install, and the x-overs just pull out for adjustments) but left the tweeters unmounted. They come with surface mounting cups, so I spent a couple of weeks mowing them around the rear of the car (just tacking them down with double sided tape). My initial concern was that the position of the rear install would really hit the high frequencies, so I, like you, thought the roll over bars might be a good position. As it turns out, I found the system much to 'bright' for my tastes with the tweeters up there. In the end, after much moving about I ended up flush mounting the tweeters into the rear panel. The sound is great, and this minimizes the amount of cutting in the car (2 new rear panels, and it is back to stock).
That is my experience, but tastes vary, so the best advice I can offer is to do as I did - leave the tweeters dangling loose, get yourself some double sided tape, and experiment with different locations.
Have fun!
