Not to hijack but can you wire the HU to not turn off momentarily while starting ignition?

sure, the easiest way would be to wire it to constant on instead of
the switched wire, then it would be on even if you took the key out.
this is how many (all?) Volkswagen products work. have to remember
to turn the radio off though...

if the problem consistently happens when you turn the key, there is
no way the problem is a bad wire between the headunit and the amp.
Do any lights on the headunit flash momentarily when you turn the key?
the radio itself opporates perfectly..lets say i am sitting in the car listenikg to the radio (the key turned to the first position {acc}) everything works fine.. then i turn the key to the on/igniton position.. the radio stops/blinks for a split second (as it should) but the amp does not power up for a few more seconds..there is a delay of some kind that was never there before

to me that sounds like perfectly normal behavior if the headunit gets
power cut to it - the amp isn't supposed to turn on for a few seconds so
that the headunit can stabilize and you don't get a pop or anything.
what I don't know is why it has changed - I'm not sure whether the
radio should lose it's power when going from acc to on, maybe someone
else can do the experiment, my car is hibernating. In any event, it's
not a problem with the remote wire, and if the behavior has changed, I'd
still lean towards the ignition switch as the problem, though it seems minor
enough I personally wouldn't do anything about it until I had other symptoms.

i was mistaken.. the head unit stays on when i turn the key from acc to ignition.. but the amp chips out for a few seconds and then comes back on

Guys, he has it wired to the remote lead from the HU at the current time. He's asking if he can wire it to another point b/c it's not staying on when the key is switched from ACC to Ignition.
Why would you do that? The remote wire is there for a specific reason. Not only that, the remote wire is lower voltage, and many amps want that voltage. Giving the full 12-14V could damage the amp.
