Wireless Mouse & Laptop
Quick question.........
Does a wireless mouse need to be pointed at the laptop/receiving unit in order for it to work?
I think I want to try a wireless mouse to eliminate one more tangling cable, but I don't want to have to point the mouse in the direction of the laptop. Is this a nature of the beast? I recall the last wireless mouse I had at work for my desktop computer, and the receiver had to be in direct sight of the mouse.
I'd ask at Fry's......;but you know how THAT goes.
Thanks all,
Hockey

Depends on the mouse.
Yes if it's IR (which is rare)
If it's Bluetooth or RF then no, it won't need a direct line of sight to the receiver.
If you're looking for a great mouse with good response (some of the wireless mice are sluggish), then i'd recommend the MX1000 from Logitech. This has got to be one of the best mice that i've used.
and yes...Fry's people suck. You HAVE to know what you're looking for when you walk in there.

You can tell these guys haven't been around long enough to think their ideas through -
"applications such as a vandal proof pay telephone keypad"
OK, so the keypad is vandal-proof. But what happens when somebody smears vaseline on the projector for the vandal-proof keypad. Now you dial your GF on the payphone and end up calling who-knows-who.
I've got a Microsoft wireless optical mouse that doesn't need to be pointed to the receiver to work. the receiver is this 2 in. usb stick that plugs into the usb outlet. on my laptop, it's on the left side but I operate the mouse with my right hand. works fine.

That's an interesting concept but I bet it's not much more than that right now.

I remember seeing these concepts years ago when I was selling palm pilots, on the main page (after you hit enter) it has a picture of an original palm or palm III...
I've used Logitech's RF and Bluetooth mice, both are good but I've had more problems with my bluetooth one double clicking when I only click once. I'm gunna contact them about it, some day. The RF one is more reliable, as long as your within a distance of ohhhh 4-5 feet (ish) from the receiver and it uses less battery power.
Good luck.
