Default wiring amp to OEM HU

My wifes parents bought an S last year and it already had an amp and S-Pods installed. But the previous owner must of had a non OEM HU and swapped it back with the OEM and hooked it up to the front speaker before trading it in (leaving the S-pods dead). I took a peak behind the HU and the inputs to the amp are there. Is there any reason why I couldn"t just splice the speaker outputs from the HU to the amp imputs? I know the HU is pretty crappy and that all they will be doing is amplifying crap, but they don't want to spend money and would like the S-pods to work. Any feedback would be appreciated...thanx.

First thing I would do is get another HU. The stock one is worse than useless IMO. Amping it would be like adding a turbo to a hampster ball.

The HU does not put out quality sound and amping it will only amplify the poor sound making it even worse.

A $150 HU, almost any HU off of Ebay will be a huge improvement.

it depends on the amp. some can take speaker-level inputs, some
can't - you'll need to check the specs on the amp.
the tricky thing is that while the OEM headunit produces 4 channels
of output, the factory wiring harness for early S2000s only has wires for
the fronts, so depending on the car's model year, you may need an
adaptor simply to get access to the rear channels on the headunit.
http://www.lucidauto.com sells them ("S2000 Rear Speaker Harness").
from there, you could either hook up the spods directly to the OEM
radio bypassing the amp, or get a line output converter
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-74u2Oe7NV5c/c...w.asp?i=142SLC4
for the amp.
I don't think you'd want to hook the spods to an amp while running the
fronts off the headunit as they'd be overpowered - if anything you'd
want to do the opposite.

This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you so much! It's a 4 channel amp and it looks like all the wiring is already in place, including speaker wire run from the amp to the front speakers. Just need to switch the OEM speaker wire on the fronts to the speaker wire from the amp, then do as you suggested to get the input to the amp from the HU. Thanx Oth

2 channels is all he needs.

I still maintain, especially with SPODS, having a stock headunit is like having someone beat on pots and pans with a wooden spoon behind your ears.
