AEM ems vs Hondata
The smog ref knew exactly what they we're looking at...They are not dumb. They even knew my ign timing was not stock (was a degree advanced via distributor) as if they used a timing light to check and know it was supposed to be 16deg with the jumper in. They will sure as hell know that a vacuum line off the fpr is going to mean increase fuel pressure.
You can't beat the system unless you pay the crooked men. Most people I know who are modified go back to stock in order to pass.
That was in like 2004 its probably even harder now. Berk and asura do not advertise their hfcs as CA legal due to rule changes in 09.

Im currently fitting an s2000 engine and box into a westfield (caterham type).
Problem is that I obviously cannot use the evap system, and because of this cannot use the air pump either-by using the stock ecu the engine will run fine, but cel's will show up when having the obd2 test. By using the aem I can disable the cels but when plugging into the obd they wont be able to read any data which will mean fail-
Ive seen that hondata do their adapted nsx kit which costs an arm and a leg!! with the main issue for me being the work involved to fit it... crank/cam sensor swap and rewire...what a ball ache!
By the looks of it tho-its the only one that will pass emissions... MY QUESTION IS: will this ecu work for me too? For you guys running s2000's and evap systems I know it will. But what if Im not running air pumps and evap systems?How does it deal with the errors? does is bypass them, or simply deactivate them?

I am not very knowledgeable in this 'Tuning World', but I am looking at Boosting my S with the Stage 2 PFAB Kit when I return from Korea next year. I want to run AEM V2 and after reading this whole thread an idea popped into my head...With AEM V2 you loose OBD2? Right? Well...hmmm why not just buy a splitter? I mean I dont know if this would work, but like I said it popped into my head while reading this.

What that cable is designed to do is run two devices that plug into the obd2 port at the same time. for instance a scan tool and the new insurance monitoring units or a programer and a scan tool.
The problem is the other end of this connects to the obd2 port which is wired to the ecm, which with aem you are completely replacing. Even if you could use it like you think by plugging in your ecu into one end it's still going to be lacking many connection points which will trigger cels that the smog station would then read.

You will not have obd with any ems as the stock ecu is replaced entirely. The only ems that might keep obd2 is the 06+ aem ems since it still keeps the stock one there.
The modifry fix will allow series1 ems to use the coolant sensor.

IS there any other things I should be concerned about with the series 1 box? anything else it doesn't do?
What's the difference in the 1012, 30-1052, and 1052u?
Also what do I need to get it installed and ready for the tuner?
Another advantage that AEM has that I haven't seen mentioned is real time tuning.
With AEM you can changes values on the fly while the car is still running and driving. No flashing neccesary. All changes are made immediately without the need to save, reupload, restart, etc.
