Default AP2 V2 ECU in a 2004?

If I were to be able to get my hands on an AP2 2006+ ECU would it be worth it to switch them out and is that even possible. I want to get the Hondata capabilities or tuning capabilities to try and fine tune some things as well as lower my VTEC point. Any input is welcomed.

No that's not possible (without major modifications to your car).
Kpro is what you should get if you want to use Hondata.

Hondata makes several ECUs for the S2000. They're not the same. You can't conveniently road tune with anything other than Hondata FlashPro and that won't work with any ECU other than the 2006. The non-USA 2006 and later cars have the right ECU and retain the small engine. Not sure what sensors they have though.

The ECU controls much more than just the engine.

if you plug the DBW ecu into a non DBW car you will not have coolant or air temps. the rest will work i believe, i base this on me plugging in a dbw AEM series2 into my 05 and letting it idle and it works just as you'd expect but the air/coolant temps do not work correctly (both read max high) this is because they are not brought out by the series2 DBW

That's surprising since both crank and cam sensors are different and there is no IACV on the dbw engines.
Are you sure there is a dbw version of the AEM EMS 2?
If you check their website they only list the FIC piggyback ecu for the dbw models

the 6053 is the dbw series2, comes with a special harness to allow the dbw computer to work
i bought one by mistake and troubleshot it a bit, the car will idle i'm not sure it would drive normally
my assumption is the pcb in the series2 is probably identical just some pins not being brought out is my guess

Ah yes I thought I had seen these before, I think they still use the factory ecu for throttle control though and probably some other accessories.
Like you said it's most likely very similar to the non dbw AEM ecu, so my statement in the first post still stand
