Hondata ECU
Does anyone know when the Hondata ECU will be in the market? And approx. how much will this ECU cost. And if anyone has any other Info on this ECU, please reply. I'm very interested in this ECU.

Nothing to report. Hondata has gotten inside the ECU, but they haven't figured out how to disable the immobilizer. I'm not giving up my stock ECU for guinea pig work, so until that gets figured out, no testing. Plus, they're pretty involved with the RSX right now.

Very different. The RSX ECU (and all newer Honda ECUs) use a flashable system with more capabilities (it would seem) than the F20C ECU.
The F20C is the last of the old style ECUs, and frankly seems somewhat similar to the Insight ECU if you can believe that.
There is hope that Hondata might be able to convert an RSX ECU to function for us, but that is still just hypotheses.

Because Hondata has a couple of spare ECUs that they can already reprogram. But we can't get them to accept a new key so that I can start the car. I've plugged both into my car, everything works except it won't start :-).
I don't know that Hondata has any specific timeline right now.

So as my quest goes for learning about ECU modification I need to ask this question.
What does ECU modding accomplish?
I'd answer it as such: It mods air/fuelf mapping and VTEC engagement points.
Am I missing anything else (aside from enabling/disabling immobilizer)?
If I'm not missing anything major, what are the advantages/disadvantages of the following, and what makes one better than the other?
VAFC
Functionality:
Can mod air/fuel ratios.
Can mod VTEC engagement points.
Adv.
User can customize a/f ratios.
User can customize VTEC engagement for differing gears.
User can save multiple maps.
Cost around $500 not including install and/or connectors.
Disadv.
On S2000 ECU, over time,
ECU negates a/f tuning...user must "reset" ECU by pulling the number 25 fuse.
Must mount VAFC controller somewhere (ideally in a easily accessible area, but out of the eye of a potential thief).
Extra wires.
Mugen, Spoon ECUs
Functionality:
Modded fuel maps.
Modded VTEC engagement points.
Adv.
Straight plug and play mod.
Spoon tuned to top end performance.
Mugen tuned to mid-range (streetable) performance.
No muss, no fuss to further tuning (depends on how the indiviual sees it).
Disadv.
$$$$ range at or above $1000 (and in case of Spoon product, core exchange).
Loss of immobilizer.
Not tuneable (depends on how the indiviual sees it).
Not "upgradeable" if other "prime" maps are defined by company.

From what I've written above, it'd seem that for minor inconveniences (resetting ECU and placement of VAFC box), the VAFC may be the winner. The only question now is, has anyone interpretted the Mugen/Spoon ECU to figure out what the a/f ratios and VTEC engagement points are that they can be programmed into the VAFC.
Am I missing some major functionalities that are being modded by the ECU when using the VAFC?
