Emissions testing
This might be a stupid question or the wrong area. But I moved to VA from AL and to get the car registered here you have to do Emissions testing. I have never done one before or really know how it works.
I have a TP on stock exhaust and custom E-Tune done, I was wondering if anyone has ever passed an emissions test with a test pipe or would I have to install the cat back on. Also is there some way I can alter my tune to just upload to help lower the emissions reading during the test?
Or you all can just call me dumb
Thanks

I don't know all the VA law but usually its emissions and safety inspection. VA is strict, but for emissions its sometimes a visual check and they may tail pipe sniff it. Also they will check the OBD2 link to check all ready sensors/no codes actively thrown. Safety includes ride height, proper bulbs/equipment etc etc.
It varies by state, you need to find specific information for Virginia. In AZ, it's a ODBII check only and as long as there is no CEL, you pass. You would fail any sort of visual or sniff test. It's very easy to swap a stock cat back in temporarily if you can't find any other way around.
