Default Haltech Platinum Pro Plug In...is a wideband necessary??

S2ki,

I've recently picked up a Haltech Platinum and will be seeing Jeff Evan for a tune soon. I'm on the fence about adding a gauge to my cockpit which is why I've created this thread.

Jeff says I do not NEED one, because he can tune the car with his wideband and then the Haltech will use my OEM primary sensor to make corrections.

I simply wanted to know if there's any real benefit to running an AEM UEGO vs. Not doing so aside from monitoring my AFR's post tune. Because truthfully speaking I'll hardly ever look at the thing.

The car is NA with bolt ons.

Having a wideband in the car will give you piece of mind.
You'll be able to easily detect how the car is running and if the car is running really bad you can usually get an idea of what might be going on based on the AFR. Intake leak, exhaust leak, misfire, etc. etc.
It'll especially help you make sure the car doesn't go super lean under power. But he's not wrong since you are NA you don't NEED one and if you don't plan on using it period or see it as a waste of money just don't worry about getting one.

If you ever plan on going Turbo or SC then I would recommend probably going ahead and getting one. Once you have forced induction making sure that your AFR's are on spot is even more crucial and critical to keeping your motor safe and running.
You can easily tell if you develop a boost leak or if you over boost and you go to lean. I would never drive a non-stock turbo or SC car without a wideband.

Personally I like to have them just so I know how well my motor is running and if there are any possible issues.

"Wide band?" Sensor? Gauge? Both? Just curious.

You are safe with the NA setup, OEM ECU and tuned by Gernby, FI is completely different. But if you really want to monitor your car then by all means.

Oh yea, forced induction is a different story altogether. I'm likely to run a wideband with a gauge after much deliberation on my setup. God forbid something does go awry, the factory o2's will likely not provide enough good solid data even if I decided to hook up the laptop and do some datalogging.

Truthfully the main reason I didn't want the gauge is aesthetic reasons. But ultimately it's the right thing to do.

Have you seen the plx wideband that allows you to run the gauge on your phone?

Unclebobby, how did your tuning go? I'm in the same boat now, getting a Haltech Platinum Pro and trying to figure out the best/safest route. I'm self tuning since there are no tuners near me. NA for now...

I haven't gotten tuned yet purely out of a lack of time for myself. Ultimately though, I decided to go with the AEM wideband.
