Default AEM Serial Gauge

I have an AEM EMS and AEM Serial Gauge. I love the gauge because it can show various parameters from the EMS on the one device.

This is all very well with the standard set of signals. But configuring the device to show information from another sensor is another story. Configuring the EMS Telemetry to send the datastream is one thing, and getting the Gauge to display it is another.

First up is what should be a fairly simple sensor. AEM's EGT Sensor (30-2050). It connects to the ECU fine on pins A5 and one of the +5V sensor outputs.

Next you need to run the Wizard:
Setup:Sensors:Exhaust gas Temp Sensor:EGT Sensor Wizard

The first option in the wizard is the correct one for EMS 30-1012. I assume it's the second for 1052. According to the dialog it turns EGT Fuel Control "ON", sets Failsafe to 700 degrees C, enters the correct EGT Sensor Cal Table and sets the EGT Fail min and Max Option. Not sure what this means nor the following: Note: the EGT Analog Inputs will need to be assigned and the EGT Fuel Correction Table should be tuned.

I went to the Options:
Setup:Sensors:Exhaust gas Temp Sensor:EGT Sensor Options
and turned off EGT Fuel Control as for the moment I only wish to monitor it.

I then went to:
Setup:<<Advanced Setup>>:Telemetry:Telemetry Setup

This dialog lists the datastreams that are sent to the AEM Serial Gauge. I chose one I knew I wasn't monitoring (ADCR14) and changed it to EGT #1 (just EGT #1, not EGT #1 Fuel Corr. or EGT #1 Voltage). Make a note of which of the 19 channels it was. For mine it was number 8.

Then at the bottom of the dialog I clicked 'Show Info'. This lists the properties of the 19 channels sent from the AEM EMS. Item 8 says:
Code:
Name Units Scalar Offset Min Max Signed? Bitmask
EGT #1 C 5 0 0 1275 N _
So this is a fairly simple channel. It's unsigned so I don't have to worry about -ve numbers represented by bytes over 127 and has a base value of 0. The tricky bit is the Max value: 1275.

Now you disconnect from the EMS and connect to the gauge. Fire up the ProGauge software then click the Establish Connection to Gauge button (icon is two hands shaking). Then power up the gauge and it should establish the connection.

The ProGauge is not very intuitive. For now you can ignore the 'Global Gauge Data' window. You want 'Single gauge data' window. The first table lists all 19 channels. Remember which channel you assigned EGT #1 to (in my case it was 8) and click on that channels first cell. A button should appear. Click that button and the Look-up Table for that channel will appear.

You can change the Gauge Name and the Units. They are just for display purposes in the software. And you can muck around with the LED digits on the right to make them display something that will remind you of the channels purpose when displayed on the gauge.

This is about as far as I get. The instructions are non-existent but there are fairly good guides on the AEMpower forum:
http://forum.aempower.com/forum/inde...c,14826.0.html

but they say to click Auto Fill and enter Min and Max values. But my Max value is 1275 and won't fit (999 is the max). I don't know whether this is just a display range or a calibration table.

For example, if I enter a Min of 0 and a Max of 500, will the gauge display correct values until the EGT is 500 degrees, then stop there. Or will it show 500 degrees when I'm at 1275 degrees and 250 when I'm at 637?

Well, I sure am glad I went to all this trouble to document the procedure.

I appreciate it, I just got my gauge hooked up for AF & plan on adding the EGT sensor

Well let's pool resources. I've posted on the AEM forums but no one seems to look at them these days.

Did you buy your gauge from a retailer? Perhaps ask them.
