Default HELP - flashing CEL with no codes!!

Hi guys sorry if im posting inappropriately im new to this site so please move the post to its rightful place if im wrong.

SO.. I always loved s2000's and in november i was lucky enough to nab myself a 2002 RHD with 126k with 30 euros in raffle tickets. amazing right??

anyways cut to a week ago, i started her up and drove about 600metres, then i noticed a slightly hesitant sound from the engine just as i shut it off. so i turned the engine back on and it started fine, then immediately bogged down and sounded lumpy and laboured, and the CEL began flashing so i switched it off immediately and pushed it into my driveway.

The car sat for a week or 2 while i waited for delivery of an OBDII scanner, now i have the scanner and there are no codes found. is this because the car sat with the battery disconnected? I dont want to risk damaging anything by turning the engine on just to throw a fresh code to my scanner... Any help here would be massively appreciated.
Thanks, Alex.

That's exactly why there's no code, it's been cleared since you disconnected the battery. It'll be hard to diagnose it unless you start it back up and get the engine light on again.

I thought that might be the case alright, I pulled the spark cover plate off and found oil residue around the cyl 1 coil, maybe a fresh set of coils wouldn't hurt if it was a misfire
Thanks man

No worries, let us know how it goes, but it sounds like you're off to a good start. Maybe time to replace the valve cover and spark plug seals if they're leaking into the tubes.

Flashing means misfires damaging the cat. There’s no dtc because the code hasn’t set but in but it should show up in pending dtc until it hits the threshold to set a solid dtc. Oil i
the tube is sign of worn tube gasket. You should replace the gaskets and do a Valve adjust while cover is off
