Post Kpro install in 2002 AP1 - detail notes (long)

Hey all...

New to forum- but been lurking about. Finished the Kpro install in my stock AP1 this past weekend, wanted to share some details not seen/read elswhere:

The mechanical part is really easy. I got tripped up by a rouge oil pan bolt working without a light under the car, overall it went:
Lower brace-> Engine stop bumper -> Oil pan
Air box->Belt ->pulleys/tensioner -> Crank (5 ft breaker bar yikes!) -> Coolant bar ->Timing cover
Coil packs->valve cover->exhaust cam (yes, I took the cam out)

Took about 8 hrs total for this, I was really taking my time having not wrenched on an s2k before.

Replaced the trigger wheels and sensors, cleaned oil pan, new valve cover and basically back together.

What got me was HOW to run the extra wires from the firewall/ecu to the sensors. First up- they are not protected or shielded. So out comes the loom and tape. But since there are two sensors, I had to mock-up where to split the loom.

The wires (for me) were about 3" too short if I followed the stock path. I had to run the loom over the brake booster (rather than under). This took quite some time for Grape-ape (me) with the engine bay so compact.

Once the wire run was maped out and the wires wrapped, getting the ECU plug through the firwall grommet was tough. First I removed the grommet from the firewall, then un-taped it, then used a big screwdriver to hold the hole open with one hand while I forced the plug through with the other. It went through eventually. Then re-tape the grommet to the wire/new wire loom. Note that this is done right over the fender, and there isn't much room...

Not done yet! With the USB cable in the ECU and mounted, I ran the USB cable over to the passenger side- under the stering column, under/infront of the radio (using spare wire to pull the cable throug from the other side). In the end, I had enough cable to connect my PC's left side USB only.

The wiring/taping/USB cable part took another 8-12 hrs easy, as I was figurung it out as I went along.

After the first calibration is loaded, *check the TPS sensor range* my was off quite a bit.

Hope this helps some out there...

BTW:
The car started on the FIRST try (WOW) and runs BETTER than stock!

The down side is there are two sensor plugs left dangling with nothing to connect to.

Thanks!

Interesting, I thought it was for AP2's. I'll have to consider this when I get an EMS.

as long as you swap to the AP2 valve cover(and other things) it will work for AP1
