Mr/Ms. Hondata....really
Have been considering the Hondata '06 reflash since it's basically
'plug-an-play" once your ECU arrives back home.
I couldn't tune a bicycle much less attempt to tune my beloved S..
so why not just get the basic reflash..raise redline and smooth
out VTec engagement not to mention bring it down a bit lower.
But..I was checking out the Reflash vs. FlashPro thread ad looking at
the dyno...WOW!
Hondata FlashPro can bring the S to 239WHP and 168lbft.?
I'm guessing with no change in regards to TP/HFC/intake or
exhaust...am I mkssing something here?
That would put the S at 280HP and 200lb.ft.!

I'm not sure which thread you're talking about, but I think you missed some important details. IIRC, there are only 2 reflash options: "Stock Tuned" and "Toda". If you have the stock catalytic converter, then you would need to get the "Stock Tuned" reflash, which gives very minor gains. If you have a test pipe, then you should get the "Toda" reflash, which would give signiticant gains, but mainly in the midrange. The advantage of the FlashPro in terms of peak power gains is very dependent on the other mods you choose. If you get a good CAI, header, and exhaust, then you might be able to increase the gains with a custom FlashPro tune.
That said, I would definitely choose the FlashPro over a reflash, since the FlashPro gives you the ability to flash the Toda tune OR Stock Tuned calibrations whenever you want, plus there are other calibrations for specific and generic upgrades. Then when you take your car to the dealership or decide to sell it, you can flash the ECU back to stock, and sell the FlashPro to someone else for close to what you paid for it.

Yea 239 whp and with about a 15% loss would equal 281 hp. I have about 235 whp so it is definitely doable. And I have 4.44 gears. It is one hell of a ride when I get on it. Flashpro is a very useful mod!!! It would be the first mod I would have done if it came out when I started to mod my car
I think drivetrain loss for a stock S2000 is closer to 20%. The transmission has a positive pressure lubrication system and a secondary reduction gear, which increase its power robbing. The front engine / rear wheel drive setup robs a bit more, and the 4.10 final drive robs it even further. It's also common to see bone stock S2000's hitting 200 rwhp on DynoJets, which is 20% below the 240 hp rating.

one..the Flashpro or the 4.44 gears which would you go for?
I can only do one...and I thought if I geared I would have to tune
to raise redline to 8500 to regain lost revs top-end..but I really
dont vtec much..and I think with the added low-end of gearing I
would be happy putzing around town being somewhat aggressive below
6k rpms!
The problem to me though with gears is if I dislike then I've sunk
$1100. plus $300. install so to return to stock would be a
very painful lesson!
If I didn't like Flashpro then I could just pull it out..and possibly
sell and recoup like 60-75% of my cost!
The numbers I stated were after adding 15% for drivetrain loss...and I
saw the dyno that's pinned to the Hondata section..it's in the "reflash
vs. Flashpro" thread..what I saw there was notjoing changed in regards to
CAI/exhaust/TP/header etc.
Maybe I missed something?
wow..Iv'e talked to some shops and they want over $2K to get those
numbers via Flashpro..TP..dyno-tune...and custom header(made in-house).
I love the idea of gears..and I think 4.44 would give me the fun I seek
while keeping the car stock..that and Koni yellows mated with
Eibach sway bars would really cinch down the chassis..not to mention
I love the look of stock height and with the Konis I could lower
1/2" to get a reduced center-of-gravity but keep the stock look!!

I installed 4.77's in my '02 AP1, and totally regretted it. The car was definitely more exciting in 1st gear, but it really ruined the car for everything else. It just makes all the gears lower, which really only guarantees a benefit from a dead stop in 1st gear (drag race). In all other cases, it just depends on the situation as to whether the gears will help or hurt. It ruined my car for autocrossing. I was never competitive against stock geared S2000's again.
It would be even worse in an AP2, since it already gives nearly identical shift points (in MPH) as an AP1 with 4.77's. Now that I have an AP2 with a great midrange, I have been considering swapping my final drive with a numerically lower ratio, so that I can achieve higher speeds in each gear. I believe this would improve my performance while autocrossing an tracking.

if i were to only keep one? hummm
well both are really great mods and i think both really brings out the best of both. but i all honesty i think the flashpro was the biggest difference. the gears came after the flashpro and it just added that little extra bit to make everything come together. if you already have the bolt-ons, just get the flashpro, you will be happier. i had the opportunity to have my car back to stock tune( the factory tune) because my friend wanted to by the flashpro and wasn't sure. so i let him barrow it for a while and he loved it. while my car was on the stock tune with all my bolt-ons, and my gears. it just lagging. it was definitely faster than my friend almost stock ap2. but it felt it was missing something.
the gears do give you a better low end feel but the 4.44 is just not that big of a difference. that is why i went with it. it was definitely shorter but it wasn't drastic change like the 4.77. it is not a night and day difference. it is not a "OMG!!!!" it is more like a "oh , hum. that is nice." i would have been happy with my bolt-ons and flash-pro. so i think my answer is obvious. if i were to pick any gear or fashpor and bolt-ons. it would be gears with 4.57. but that isn't made anymore
but one thing to know is that a stock car with 4.57 or any gear for that matter v.s. a car with bolt-ons and flashpro. the latter car would win in a long drag race.
gernby, a couple of comments to your post. first off, how does 4.10 rob power?? never heard that before just wanted to know. and second, 20% does sound right. 240ho=200whp.
hummmm if we take the equation a/b = c/d, that will mean a*d=c*b.
if 235/X = 80/100, then 235*100 = 80*X.
X= (235*100)/80 = 293.75 crank hp!!!!!!!!!
ok that doesn't sound right. :confuse:
