Default Tuning help.

I want to start with an apology and a "please don't kill me for this question". I have an 03 s2000 that I love to death. I have of recent thought about getting my car tuned. I have very little of an idea as to go about doing so. What I guess I'm asking is should I just buy Kpro that is compatible with the 03 S2000 and get it tuned that way or if I should do something else. My use for the car is simply daily driven but I'm looking to "clean" things up and put a little more pep behind the gas pedal. Again sorry if I'm saying the wrong things but I'm looking for help and advice and everyone on this forum has always been very nice and helpful so I figured I'd ask. Thanks in advance!

The kpro for s2k is an adaptation of an rsx ecu. Requires crank position and cam position sensors modifications. Not plug and play, but benefit is that you keep obd and codes (still don't think it'll pass CA smog test anyway since its not an s2k ecu)

Being an 03 there aren't many options. Its either aem, haltech, or kpro and its pretty much overkill for just simple bolt ons. EMS will eliminate obd altogether and will not register anything when reader is plugged in.

You're going to have to spend 4 digits including tuning. There's no way around it. Should take about 3 hours of tuning for first time for N/A bolt ons. Tuning/dyno rental is about 150 an hour.

Otherwise you're stuck with GMU or vafc piggybacks.

you have an ap1 so your choices are haltech, aem or hondata with regards to standalones. you have piggy back options too but i wouldn't recommend those. as far as the standalone choices go, if you need to pass emissions in your state then stick with hondata. if not go with aem or haltech.

I have the AEM, I like it. If you are not mechanically inclined and you have a problem it might prove a problem and spending more money on top of everything. Yyou will have to learn how to troubleshoot with out a DTC code. Not sure if the KPro kicks out DTC codes.

kpro is sweet for the rsx- but its a piggyback hard core solution for the s2k - 1,800 + $400 in "other parts" to install. ~20hp tops with basic bolt-ons. and yes she can give DTC codes, simulate 02 sensor for smog test.

The following items must be replaced before the S2000 K-Pro can be used. These parts are not supplied by Hondata and should be purchased from a Honda dealer.

Crank sensor 37500-PZX-003

Crank wheel 13622-PCX-013

TDC sensor 37510-PZX-003

TDC wheel 14112-PCX-003

Valve cover 12310-PCX-020

Drain plug washer (for PCV valve) 94109-14000

PCV valve 17130-PCX-003

IAT sensor 37880-P05-A00 (not required, but stock IAT will read about 30 degrees hotter)

The approximate cost of these parts is $300-375.

Thank you for all the answers. after more research it looks like I would have to do a lot of things for kpro to work on my car. but I'm told I'm running too rich. Every now and then when i start my car up after its been off for at least 8 hours it spits black, I don't know if its char or what but its not oil out of my exhaust. I was told that means I'm running too rich. But I did want to get a tune just so I could have things more precise but I'm beginning to see that it's not worth it for what i have on my car.

for ~$50 you can do a dyno pull with a/f to fine out or simply have someone follow u from WOT pull to rev limit. black smoke = rich, white/blue = oil, nothing = lean to just right.... if you are stock it maybe time for a fresh air filter... if u get a little black smoke i wouldn't worry, only if it's for a long duration during the WOT pull..... my home boy's CTS auto will kick out a little black smoke when he guns her from a roll and it's cool, but it cleans up quickly....

i would be surprised if you are rich enough to impact hp. any mods? bolts on will lean it out. if you want control of a/f you can get a cheaper solution with a AFC controller
