Hi there - I just moved from PA to NJ. The inspection process seems smooth here for my other car (totally stock) but I did notice the below when I did an ODB2 scan on my boosted s2k. Will I fail because Misfire, Fuel System, Evap, and EGR are not showing Complete? I am running HONDATA KPRO.
I do not run Cats, but have a spare downpipe with cat that I can throw on to pass visual...
The answer is: It depends. Is the Hondata using the Acura RDX ECU? When it's plugged into their system, it will come up as that if they're looking. Depending on the year, the ECU will show a VIN, which they will then compare to the VIN on the door jam. If they're different, they will have an issue. If they check all the readiness codes, you will fail for the EVAP. However, I have a EVAP simulator (and didn't have readiness) and they passed me with flying colors, although, I swapped a cat on and just kept the supercharger on with stock ECU so it looked completely stock. You can give it a shot and see, and let everyone know! Worst case you pay for a private inspection that are usually more lenient.

I do not have an OEM ECU... if I did, wouldn't installing on my highly modified engine cause problems? Probably throw a CEL and cause me to fail my inspection anyway?
I just recently did an inspection on my STi. You probably won't pass the visual as there are cameras when your drive over to the inspection station that views your undercarriage to see if you have CATs. Let us know what happens. Not sure where in NJ you are located, but if you are located in South Jersey, I would go to the inspection station located in southhampton. Super quick, very few people go there so you are almost in and out.

The EVAP simulator worked in the sense that it did not throw a code, but when checking the readiness codes, it says it is still pending. It is still pending a couple years after i installed it.
You can run a stock ECU with stock injectors and just prevent the ECU from seeing boost from the turbo. If you can pass the visual test, and the car doesn't throw any codes, then yes, you could use the stock ecu to get inspection done. I don't know how modified your motor is, but if you're mechanically inclined, you can do it too. I have done that when my car was turbo, and I do it now when its supercharged.
