Default 38mm Tial WG

Well I will be turning up the boost on my car for this summer. I have a 38mm Tial wastegate with a 6psi spring. How much boost can this spring hold steadily?

I plan to run around 18psi. If needed what size spring would you recomend?

Thanks
Martin

Generally rule of thumb is you can double the spring rate. So about 12psi is what would be "steady"

I ran a 38mm on my miata, it had a 6.5psi spring and would hold 18psi all day long.

I've always heard the same about not going over double psi from what the spring rate is because boost could become unstable, but I am running 25-26 psi on my 10.15 psi spring and boost is holding pretty steady. I plan on adding my old 5.8 psi spring to see if anything changes.

The only problem I have noticed is my 60-1 turbo holding boost at 26 psi or above. I think I've hit it's limit and it's getting into compressor surge territory.

yeah the 60-1 is an older compressor and i think it tops out around 25-26psi. I bet you are right at the edge of the compressor map on it. Hey, plus you still owe me a ride.

If you ever get the chance, I'll be out at HL most Saturdays or where ever Blevins and I end up. I still haven't gotten it out yet this year but may be out if it doesn't rain.
