3mm headgasket longevity
This thread was a whole damn lot more interesting than I expected! The only thing I'd caution is that while we're learning as a community, most of our knowledge is based on individuals' experience and not statistically reliable study.
Meaning that yes, I'm willing to trust y'all and not bother with a 3mm HG on my Greddy. And yes, down the road I'll trust your recommendations when I increase the boost too. But are our results consistently repeatable across 100 / 1,000 / 10,000 / 100,000 cars with different aftermarket FI kits at various altitudes, regional fuel formulations, and climates? Do DIY guys like me install turbo kits or build motors as well as a pro would? Are all tuners as good as Giles or Mase? Does everyone baby the motor the same way I do, or do they beat on it like it owes them money?
There are a lot of variables that we don't always account for in each of these discussions, and the OP is smart to inquire about our experiences.

We're a fairly large community, but we're never going to achieve FI sample sets of 100,000. Or even a 1000. If you're waiting for that you're going to be waiting a long time. You have to take the handful of reported experiences and make up your own mind, go your own way, have your own experience and add to the pool.
