Default Add another victim to the ACT crankwalk

well last night i felt an interesting feeling in my left foot on the way to a metro NY meet. got into the parking lot and sure enough my crank pulley is moving in and out with each touch of the clutch. clutch fluid is also almost black!

out comes the motor - whats the next best option for this block? is it salvageable at all, or should i just get a new bottom end?

any help would be appreciated.

How many miles on your car? What was your oil pressure? Turbo or supercharger? Are you driving in heavy traffic where you may be holding down the clutch longer than normal? The reason I ask is Modifry a forum member went 185k miles supercharged before he spun a bearing and that was with many track days. The last 85k miles was with an ACT hd PP. There are lots of issues that can cause crank walk not just the ACT PP and there have been quite a few members that got crank walk with the stock PP.

ILP turbo 420whp. low oil pressure at idle (8-10psi).

clutch has maybe 4k on it, most of them N/A. 29k on the motor itself. i do not hold down the clutch ever unless i have to shift. most driving is done during the week, during the day, where there is minimal traffic. i goto absolute extremes to baby my car.

im also using the act flywheel, and a stock disc. i have noticed the revs drop whenever i move the clutch at idle. i realize some of the older members have had this clutch for a long long time with no issues but it is my understanding that the older clutches are a different design, but i am unsure.

currently im in the process of yanking everything, in the meantime i'd love to hear more opinions/options/comments/criticisms/anything.

Wow , I detect speculation here . The clutch fluid has NOTHING to due with crank walk . More details please .

i am confused by this point as well. i am told my clutch fluid looks 'burnt,' like its been working too hard.... i have no idea. im still in the process of learning.

Though I'm not turbo my oil pressure has never even approached that level at idle... whats your oil level?

oil level is perfect. i check it religiously. its also squeaky clean, as is coolant, and all other fluids.

oh, and to add to that statement on oil pressure - i monitor it via a sandwich adapter on the filter side of my oil relocation, so i've always expected the numbers to run a little bit low.

i'm sure if i had jumped the clutch engage switch for startup it would have lasted longer, i just never got to that part of my todo list yet. the car has only been turbo'd and tuned for about 1000 miles so there were other things that were taking priority. maybe i'll get to them now!

That is dangerously low oil pressure.I'm using a kw high boost kit and my oil pressure is 25psi at idle and about 50 at 2000 rpms. Those thrust bearings rely on a layer of oil, without proper lubrication you can kill them quick.
