I thought the same thing when I did the relay on mine. If you look at the stock plug inside the tank here. It seems the wiring inside for the pump is about a 12 gauge (or 10) for the power(blue) and possibly 14 at the ground(skinny black), which still would seem to allow up to 20 amps and that is more than what we need(based on the charts below):

Walbro pumps draw about 10A @ 70 psi or ~26psi boost (static fuel pressure of 43.5psi + 26psi boost, more than what most people run)

Special thanks to EngineerX for the charts referenced above. I left my internal plug wiring as is.

Hope it helps!

I was having this same problem intermittently with my AEM320. It finally happened one morning here in my driveway where it wouldn't prime at all. Checked all wires with my multimeter and everything was working as it should with the relay and the power was getting to the pump, it just wouldn't prime at all. I had to get a ride to work and left the car sitting. after work, tried again and the pump primed with no problems at all. Did some research on AEM pumps having the same issue, and decided to replace mine with a Walbro 450lph. Haven't had the issue again and have simply written it off as being a faulty pump. I really need to get around to sending my old one in to AEM to see if I can get money back or something, because I had it in the car less than 6 months before it apparently failed. It seems like we're not alone on this one.

Totally forgot to update, my apologies. The AEM pump ended up failing on me ( tried to jump the pump and nothing )and JJAUTOWERKS was able to warranty it out for me thru AEM. Ended up ordering a Walbro 255 pump and have been great since! AEM sent me a new one and ill be using it as a backup. Thanks all for the help!

I have my first aem 320 e85 pump seized up on me and got a replacement one under warranty. The second pump isn't seized up but is already not working. It would still prime if i direct jump it. First pump less than 700 miles. It die as soon as I rewired and went over to e85. My second pump had one day of driving and now it won't prime. I had the pump out to jump start and it did prime. After seeing this post I don't wanna put the second pump back on. I may end up going with a walbro now. Too many horror stories on these pump lately and I don't wanna be stuck somewhere again.
