Thumbs down AEM METH KIT Heads up

Just wanted to put this out there, but after installing my #2 Meth kit, this one too has started to fail. I noticed a small wet area of METH in my trunk and I cant figure out where it is leaking from, however it is only leaking while the pump is operating. I also noticed it is only flowing at 400cc/mm as opposed to 500cc/min.

I will say if you have the gauge in place, as well as in the proper area and you take a peak at it before you go really get into boost, the risks are worth it. I have had my pump fail, line blow off, and now massive leaks but was able to catch it each and every time before bad stuff happened, The LED in plain view is important, as well as the Flow Gauge, there is no way I would ever run this kit without a Flow Guage.

Anyway, it seems if you run more than 50% Meth the seals will go bad in a fairly short time. I am just going to fork out another $150.00 for a new pump and press on, however I do plan on sending it back to AEM to fix/replace or whatever..............

Joey,
AEM manual specifically says do not use more than 50/50 mix with this kit. Just a heads up because they might not replace if you tell them that's what happened.

Yeah, AEM definitely CLEARLY states to not run more than 50/50.

Maybe you should changed the name of this thread too "AEM METH KIT Heads up, read the directions"

Do you know which version pump you have? AEM is on their 3rd model change of pumps. Can you take a picture?

Maybe since you live in such a cold climate and since your just noticing the problem now in the winter, the water froze and cracked something. I know our windshield washer fluid freezes in the reservoir up here all the time...

Interesting, depending on the weather …or my mood, I will run anything from 70/30 Meth/water to 100% meth and have had no issues at all. The Sure Flow pump that is in the AEM kit, the seals I believe are designed to take 100% Meth - At least the 2nd/3rd gen pumps. AEM recommends running 50/50 for “safety” reasons. No company wants to risk being liable if you blow yourself up lol, Allot of speculation here as to what the leaking problem could be. Joey as mentioned my system leaked in my trunk too, and since I couldn’t see where the leak was coming from because of the location, I decided to move it. It was just a line into the fitting that worked loose. I haven’t had a problem since relocating.

well, I remember watching a Video (out out by AEM) thats says the pump can fully support 100% Methanol, the reason they don't suggest that is because its flammable........

I have the 2nd version of the pump, I am going to order the new HD pump. Honestly I don't mind its only $150.00.

PS I will find the video by AEM that clearly states you can use 100% METHANOL but not recommended because its so flammable

PS to the PS

There is way too much METH for anything to crack, however I noticed the leaking only happens when it is very cold out, I will see if it does the same when it warms up, I know it was leaking when it was cold then when it was warmer out it wouldnt leak, so we shall see

I knew I was right, took it right off the AEM Webpage

"All AEM Water/Meth injection systems and components (pump, lines, fittings, filter, flow sensor, tank, and nozzles) are 100% chemically compatible with methanol. However, for safety reasons we strongly recommend that users never use more than a 50% methanol concentration in our systems."
