Default AEM Smart Coils

Had the hardest time finding a place to mount them.

Still need to wire to a relay and ground the rest of the wires. And then figure how to custom cut the ignition coil wires to the plugs.

Reason for trying them out? A couple months after turbo, my AP1 coils blew. Had severe misfire under boost. Changed over to RSX coils last year. Still had that inconsistent break up under full boost every once in a while. Recently, started having misfires under boost again.. Plugs were gap down to 0.018. Thought I try them out to see if it cures my ignition problems....

Plan is to use MSD superconductor wire, custom cut to fit.

Clever mounting location! How much boost were you running, out of curiosity?

Subscribed... FYI, Excellent mounting job on the coil packs!

I've wondered about the ignition coils as well, have considered upgrading as I'm getting a misfire as well...
Not to steal your thread, but you seem to have done your research on ignition, so just want your quick opinion on best to worst of the below coil options?

I'm thinking something like this?

1) AEM Coil Pack Setup?
2) Okada Plasma Direct COP
3) CBR COP
4) OEM RSX COP
5) OEM S2k COP

boost a spark changes all of this, I am considering just pushing the boost a spark to 900-1000hp and see if it works, I didnt have any trouble around 800 hp

What were the symptoms that you had when you had the misfire? I wonder if my coils are due. My car sometimes won't build full boost and makes a cycling firing noise WOT almost like its missing. Hard to explain I thought it was B/C related but maybe I should swap out the coils?

17psi. I don't really like the location. Too cluttered. I may move it away and run very long coil wires.

Can't really answer your question. I'm testing out the AEM Smart coils to see if they work for me. I daily drive the car and put around 15K miles after turbo. Right after installing the AEM EMS Series 2, a couple months later the Stock coils (70K miles) failed. Then ran brand new RSX coils and it ran great with Ken Bell Boost A Spark on stock NKG gap. About a year later, I started getting misfires under boost. Either buy new coils or try out the AEM Smart coils.

Symptoms were break ups and stuttering between 5K - 7K rpm on stock NGK gap. You can feel the excessive vibration. Gapped down to 0.018 and the misfires lessened, but the misfires were still present.

Take a look at your injector washers and O-rings and make sure they are not leaking.
