I also have an 05 AP2. I choose the Votech kit and am very pleased with it. The AP2 Vortech kit comes with an extra injector for the AP2's (5 total). The Black Box for the 04/05 AP2 kits have a different program than the AP1's. I personally, have upgraded the pulley, used larger injectors and an AEM EMS (1052). With this upgrade, i was able to get rid of the Vortech Black Box in favor of the EMS. In addition, i was also able to bybass (unplug) the extra injector that comes with the AP2 Kit.

The Vortechs are capable of producing a little more power over the Comptechs but the Comptechs are easier to install. Upgrade either system with a smaller pulley, larger injectors (RC 750's) and an AEM EMS and you'll have an additional power increase

If you use the AP1 Vortech Kit on an AP2, use larger injectors and an AEM EMS. This will solve the difference between using the black box (AP2 program)and the extra injector that comes standard on the AP2 Kit.

You will have to get the vehicle tunned if you go the EMS route (Tunning does cost$$$).
I hope this made since and is useful!

Of course you can. However, you won't build up full boost if you put a kit meant for a 2.0L onto a 2.2L. The kit for the 2.0 was designed to reach full boost at 9000 rpm. The 2.2L won't get there. A similar situation develops if you go the other way. A 2.2L kit might overboost if you put it on a 2.0.

So? If you're tuning via an EMS it won't matter that an AP2 pulley will make 7 psi instead of the 5 it might make on an AP1 (or 9 vs 7psi if Vortech)...

The 5 psi you speak of was after the aftercooler was introduced by Comptech. It's actually closer to 6 psi. Putting on a smaller pulley offsets the volume of the aftercooler and gets you back to nearly 7 psi. Only a bit of a tweak on the FMU is all you really need to make that work. Those who added the aftercooler on an existing AP1 kit, lost 1 psi to 1.5 psi of manifold pressure. Getting the AP1 kit pulley (smaller) got that loss back but it needed the FMU tweaked. If an AP2 kit already pushes 7 psi, it's going to overboost an AP1 and then you would need more than just tweaking the FMU.
We may be talking about 2 different things.
I can't comment on the Vortech.
