Default Battery Heat Blanket

Hey guys, I'm looking for a high quality battery heat blanket to protect it from the heat generated by the turbo. Can anyone point me to a quality product at a reasonable price? Thanks a lot!

Dave-

I am just going to get a sheet of aluminum, and bend it to fit the shape of the OEM heatshield (more vertical to clear mu header vs. curving over the header). Apply reflective tape to the hot side = good insulation.

I have never been a fan of attaching anything directly to the battery (like a NOS bottle warmer, but an insulator). But that is just me.

Well, lucky for me, I have a dry cell battery that doesn't need to "breathe" so I ordered a Thermo-Tec heat barrier (comes in a roll like dynamat) and will wrap the battery in it. It's been my experience that turbo cars need dry cell batteries if the battery is anywhere near the turbo. Even if my battery melted, it would just die, no mess to clean up.

I am still running my old Optima Yellow-Top.

I would just make sure that whatever you get is reflective, and protective against radiant as well as convective heat. I just picked up an insulation tape roll (3" width), and it claims 95% reflectivity to radiant heat... I removed the windshield cowl weather stripping to make sure the air is constantly flowing over the manifold area... you can actually see it "haze" out of there when it gets hot. Imaging all that being forced out of a lower point!

What battery are you using? What cranking power does it have? I need to start up a LOT of electronic crap with the car. (DVD player, 2 amps, fill a 1.5F cap, XM, iPod, EMS, EDFC, radar, gauges, etc. etc. etc.) but electronics are so FUN!

PasswordJDM makes a pretty nice C/F heat shield with what appears to be an added aluminum heat section. It's an OEM dimension, so I'm not sure if it will fit with your turbo.

I didn't think Yellow Tops were Dry-Cell... I thought lighter batteries (like the little red odyssey one) were drycell...

The mat neutralized battery acid... sounds like its designed for a wet cell to me...

Let me know how it works. I might do something similar instead of a whole heatshield....
