I'd be too big of a puss to try and drag race my s2k. Seems like any serious wheel hop and these diffs are toast.
The v12's that I have actually have a pretty soft sidewall

So, still trying to come up with a plan for the rear. I'm thinking a puddymod stage 2 diff with 3.7 or 3.9 gears, stock axles (I hear the DSS had issues providing a strong OEM replacement axle), and a set of ap1 rims with drag radials for the track.

Thoughts?

Do the 4.10s feel short? I stayed with 4.10s and aiming for 600whp....I'm not sure on axles either

The 4.10's do feel short and it would be nice to have a lower RPM on the highway cruising along at 70mph. I might go with the 3.9's. The stock 4.10's I have to shift to 5th just before I reach the 1/4 mile mark

I guess it depends. If you have an AP2 personally I'd say 3.7 should be good, AP1 is a tougher call.. Depends what you're building the car for also.. 1/4 mile? I'd run some calculations with your tires and gearing and whether you can clear the traps in 4th..

Yes I have an ap2. Might go with the 3.7 because sooner or later I am going to up the boost

I suppose you could say I am "building" the car for 1/4 mile haha. It is still just a fun car for me.

Gotcha.. I think people leave out the important fact of whether the car is an ap1 or ap2 when talking about gearing. The higher redline in the AP1 means a higher MPH in each gear, and I think the Ap1 gearing is actually slightly taller than the ap2 in 1-4. Not to mention the 2.2 makes more torque.

If/when I add boost and change the diff, I'll goto a 3.7 without hesitation. The added bonus being I'll also get a lower cruising rpm in 6th. The change from a 4.1 to 3.7 is only roughly a 10% taller diff in gearing.

If you guys want to upgrade to a stronger diff with longer gears, I was able to get the 350z diff mounted in my car with custom brackets and driveshaft. Its a 3.357 final drive and uses the stock axles.

Interesting. Do you have a thread outlining any details?
