Best turbo for torque?
its not the turbo you need to worry about, ITS THE MANI!
5857 on a tubular mani will make sick power band and spool pretty quick. the thing i always look at is when does the setup make 200whp. anything before 5k rpms is badass. remember an NA s2k that we all once thought was quick makes that at 8k+
think about it.

If you really want only 300HP and MASSIVE amounts of torque...
GT28RS "Disco Potato" with a 0.82 A/R T3 Divided (twin scroll) Turbine Housing
*Turbo should make around 350hp
Twin Scroll Manifold (PFAB, AFI)
You really cant do a much better torque combo with a turbo IMO.

we just did a k24 with a k20 head and a full race tubular t3 gt3076r for a friends rsx and it is awesome in that car i couldnt imagine that setup in an exige especially twin scroll.. you would love the torque curve ill try and find the dyno graph i really recommend this exact setup for your car i think you will be unhappy with any smaller turbo or a supercharger

for 300hp I will definetly choose vortech or SOS supercharger kit...
He said he wanted torque at low revs. Your best bet is the SOT kit with the high boost pulley. It will have the most torque down low than any of the turbo kits in the 300-400 hp range. The torque curve will also be a lot flatter. Look up camuman's set up.
Personally, I would go with a GT3071R if you go turbo. You would still feel VTEC (if you wanted), but with lots of low end torque and great high end push. It's an awesome turbo. You might even be able to get it with a divided housing for more torque.
The SOT supercharger would give you the low end torque you crave.
The SOS, Vortech, Comptech, and Kraftwerks kits would all be similar to the Rotrex kits you say you know and don't like. All centrifugal SCs will have a similar power curve without much torque down low.
