ap1 ftw. 9000rpm, longer gears, i actually like the rear end of the ap1 better...less busy more natural looking. AP1 > AP2 all day every day for me.

i spin my ap2 to 8500rpm. whats the big difference over 500rpm? you make power one of two ways typically. more rpm or more displacement. more displacement gets you broader power band
my ap1 redlines at 9600. i kinda like more rpm then discplacement. Its just that Ridiculous loud screaming motor is just a lot of fun.

To the OP: get either a 2002 or 2005. i think those are the best years for either ap1 or ap2 model. 02 fixes the problems of the early models. 05 fixes the problems of the new ap2 2004 model.

holy crap. u can spin stock ap1 to 9600rpm without valve float? ok, that is pretty sick.

Having had an ap1 and ap2 motor, and raced a quite a few similar horsepowered s2k's, i've found that the .2 displacement does alot. I've been able to keep up or pull on s2k's making more horsepower, but less torque than me (ap1's) and i can't believe its just due to have 3.91 gearing and an ap1 tranny. There is something to be said for a few years of engine development as well. The newer ap2 motors make more power than ap1's, and were built to closer tolerances. This is coming from a guy with an 01 ap1.

I also like the styling of the newer models.

i currently have an AP1 which rev limit is set to 9600rpm. whenever i send a block to inlinepro to build im going to get the ap2 crank. I just think the extra displacement will be better for a street car. I like the styling of the ap2 more as well. Ultimately its your call. I say go for a later model AP1 only because you are going to spend around 10k on making it faster and the extra sweetness you will pay for the ap2 isnt worth it.

If it were me, find a clean ap1 for 12k and make a real nice turbo setup for it.
