Default Changing Turbos this Afternoon

Hey guys,

After blowing a transmission last summer with my 2.5L stroker/IP stage 2 kit, I opted to run a smaller turbo at lower boost for better spool and DD drivability.

I'm swapping out the PT 6765 from the kit and replacing it with a PT 5857 this afternoon (both T4 VBand), but I wanted to make sure that I wasn't overlooking anything when doing the swap.

Could anyone cost a DIY/"don't forget to do this" to help me out.

Most of it seems pretty straightforward, but I wanted to be safe.

Thanks!

make sure oil restrictor is right. make sure all bolts are tight. set boost low, and tweak tune. dont just floor it after install. log and make sure all is well. otherwise, should be straight foward. i imagine the midrange part of the tune will need tweaking at the very least. that thing will spool way faster!

Are they the same bearing type? (JB, BB, CBB, etc)

They're both JB turbos. I'm actually going to keep it fully in vac. until I get it into a shop to have it retuned on Monday. I'd just rather be safe and get it in the car before making the 3 hour drive (highway cruise in vac) to get it fully retuned.

In terms of the oil restrictor, how can I be sure that everything is right?

With the 5857 JB you have 3 possible scenarios for oil restriction from my experience..

A. Use a -4an feed with no restrictor
B. Use a -4an feed with a .062" restrictor
C. Use a -3an feed with no restrictor

If option A causes some smoking, then switch to B or C.. Not all 5857's can handle the -4an unrestricted, mine did for a year, then I had to put on the restrictor. YMMV
It also depends where the feed comes from, mine ran off the side of the block.

Hope this helps

Hey guys,

I swapped the turbos over today. Everything seemed to go smoothly, but after taking the car for a quick spin (not in boost) I noticed that I'm getting an oil weep/leak from the bottom oil fitting on the turbo.

I went back and tried to tighten the fitting more, but it didn't really seem to make a noticeable difference.

I'm going to give it a rest for the night, but tomorrow morning I need to get this all sorted out (getting tuned Monday).

What would you guys recommend I try to get rid of the leak?

its coming from the fitting or between the turbo & drain flange ? Use thread sealant on the fitting & high temp gasket maker (red) on the flange.
